you should read The Jungle by Upton Sinclair
Great hub, and the 18 points you listed are especially interesting and scary. You are right, Upton Sinclair's, The Jungle, is a great eye opener. The meat processing practices were horrific then, and not much has changed since. In the news today we still see horrific abuses. It's disgusting. Thanks for the hub.
Cheers Veggies, wish I had the willpower to do what you do :)
Nice hub, very well researched. Keep it up

There are sooo many good reasons to become a vegetarian...and I know I should especially with my health...but it is sooo hard! I love my steak, I love my fried chicken...and #9 really made me feel bad. I don't think I would want to eat any meat that was killed in front of me! I guess it's easier to swallow when you don't see the actual killings. Thanks for these important facts.
