Upon selecting curtains for your home, velvet curtains are a distinctly better choice for most families. These curtains are well suited for any décor in almost any room. There are a few things to consider when choosing this style. First you should begin with what you will choose to hang your curtains with. For holding you curtains up you can choose a standard metal curtain rod, a decorative wooden rod with heart shaped ends or something more modern with a fancy metal rod. When choosing style curtain for hanging, you must consider size, shape, and thickness, as well as stability of the rod itself to hold such a thick piece of material. They can be hung in 1 panel (curtains)) or 2 separate panels (drapes). With material such as this you can either choose to get it custom fitted to your windows or simply choose to buy fabric at a fabric store.

When buying your own fabric you can choose styles and colors that you may not find in stores; such as red velvet curtains and vintage velvet curtains. With your own fabric you can measure, cut and sew them to your specifications with keeping your variations at a maximum. For the velvety feel of such curtains, they are achieved by woven fabrics made with cotton or man-made fibers such as polyester. They are akin to deer antlers velvety feel and when touched almost have a texture like fur. This texture is pleasing to many people for its look and feel- sometimes feel alone!

When viewing your finished velvet curtain design you may chose to tie them back or to allow them to hang down. There are many variations to choosing the tied back look, depending on what you choose to tie your sides back with. Each side can be tied back with a sash, rope or other suited material. These curtains will be available in a wide array of colors from burgundy, crème, black, white, crimson moss green and deep blue just to name a few. Due to the variances in color these curtains are sure to fit any decor in any room.

Your type of curtain will vary depending on your room you are decorating at the time. Most common for velvet curtains are living rooms, bedrooms and sitting rooms. They can help keep light out in a bedroom and heat in a rug less sitting room. They will provide a romantic feel for a comfortable room (such as a bedroom or living room) with rich dark colors or an elegant feel to a sitting room which might have lighter colors.

After you choose either method for getting your curtains (making your own curtains or buying them direct from a store either online or local), and have purchased your curtain rod, you must then install your curtain rod. Be sure to attach the rod to the stud in your walls as these curtains will weigh down regular sheet rock and cause it to deteriorate fairly quickly. Once done, stand back and enjoy your new curtain which is something everyone will want to touch as velvet curtains are a wonderful luxury addition to any room!
