If you've heard rumors about vicks and toe nail fungus, it may have you a bit curious. What does vicks have to do with toe nail fungus?

Vicks Vapor Rub appears to have cured toe nail fungus in many people over the years, and it is becoming a more known about and popular home remedy for toe nail fungus treatment. Some people scoff at the idea of using vicks for toe nail fungus, and some say it didn't work for them. Many others however, have reported seeing great success with it.

Vicks is best known as a menthol rub to use on your chest when you have a cold, or to put on sore and aching muscles. It is not officially marketed as a toe nail fungus topical treatment, but over the years it has proven itself to be an option for many people.

The main ingredients of vicks - Menthol, Eucalyptus, and Camphor - all have strong smells. And each of these ingredients is known to be a great pest repellant by itself. Combined, the three possibly help kill toe nail fungus specifically due to the smell they create. Eucalyptus oil is also a known natural antiseptic, which makes it work wonderfully as an antifungal too. Camphor is very good at penetrating the skin too, so it can help the eucalyptus get beneath the toe nail to directly target the fungus problems.

Using vicks for toe nail fungus is fairly easy to do. First you need to scrub your toes. Be sure to remove as much debris from around and under your toe nails as you can. Then try to remove as much dead skin from around and under the toe nails too. Removing debris and dead skin will allow the vicks to penetrate to your toe nail fungus faster.

Apply vicks to the toe nails with fungus two to three times each day. Use a cotton swab and be sure to spread it all around and under your fungus infected toe nails. After applying, put a cotton sock on to keep the vicks from rubbing off.

Note that using vicks for toe nail fungus does not seem to work for everyone. Different people repond to all treatments and medications differently, and the severity of your toe nail fungus problems may play a large role in how well the vicks remedy works for you.

If you don't clean your toe nails well however, or you have a lot of built up, thick, dead skin, that can cause the vicks not to work overly well. Or it may mean you need to use the vicks for a longer period of time before seeing results.

Note that when using vicks for toe nail fungus problems, you are potentially allowing your body to absorb other chemicals that could be harmful to it. Vicks has turpentine in it for instance, and prolonged absorption of that could cause other health problems. Vicks can also sometimes irritate your skin.
