A majority of major Video retailers have gone out of business due to online movie websites,video rental by mail,bootleggers and the newest video vending machines. The video retailers have lost millions and are trying to recoup some of the money back by offering incentives or low pricing that just wont work. We now live in a world of technology where you can do almost everything online. People are shopping online more,renting movies online or watching directly over the internet,downloading movies to sell,grocery shoopping online,going to school online,earning a income online,ther is really nothing you cant do online including sex if you want it.

    The major retailer Blockbuster is trying to stay in the game by now having a online dvd rental service, they have been around since the first store opened in 1985 Dallas,Texas. Blockbuster quickly became the largest billion dollar video chain the movie industry and just as fast  lost significant amounts of money in recent years $1.6 billion in 2002, almost $1.0 billion in 2003, and $1.2 billion in 2004. but blockbusters is still a 5.28 billion franchise as of January 4,2009. The question I ask is that with all the competition,all the free movie websites,can they hang in there or will they eventually go out of business as several others have?

    I believe the government has made a big mistake by running everything satelite,forcing everyone to either get cable or purchase these converter boxes to view television at home. It is simply crazy because either way we are still paying for something that used to be free. The cable industry is now booming more than ever,they have the right to raise the prices basically anytime they want so we either pay or be left without television entertainment. The economy was already hurting,so why put more strain on all of us to shell out more money to cable companies. Was this the plan from the start?

    Either way the cable industry i feel will still lose money because the majority of the people i know have the basic cable,why? Its because they have every movie they could ever watch at the tip of their fingertips through online satalite TV. Online satelite tv has had a major boost in sales since the digital converter box was introduced,but they had these great sales records before the tv digital convert even happened. With online satelite tv its much like cable but you are not paying monthly,you make a one time payment and its there available to you for as long as you have internet access. I prefer this much over cable because I am seeing the same shows as i was on cable plus many more,I am not paying late bill payments,extra charges payments,service switch payments or anything on everyones direct tv or comcast bills.

    Why didnt we have a say in the converter box issues? We are the ones who are watching tv,purchasing the products that are advertised,watching the movies that are relased,we are the reason tv exists because with no one to sit home and watch it,you would have a empty box,there simply wouldnt be a hollywood. Maybe they are trying to take us back to the days of which there were no TVs,people listened to commercials and soap operas etc on radios. I wonder what that could have been like.

    The point of my blog is to let you all out there who are complaining about high cable bills and the messed up economy know that you can do something about this if you want to. Almost every home in the US has internet access, stop shelling your money out to cable companies who are all too happy to take it,start watching everything for free,it couldnt hurt anymore than it does to sit home watching a empty screen because you had to buy food and couldnt afford to pay the cable bill.
