A captured American soldier in Afghanistan pleads on a recently released video that the "American people who have that power" to bring the war prisoners home. An American soldier missing from his eastern Afghanistan military base and later confirmed as captured was found on avideo released from the Taliban. This information is cited from the Associated Press and confirmed by two U.S. defense officials.
The full video that is 28 minutes in length shows the prisoner sitting in an eastern sitting position speaking of how he misses his family and that he is afraid that he may never be able to hug his family again. The American soldier is shown with his head shaved as he gives a statement through heart wrenching sniffling who tells the American people that they have the power to bring captured American soldiers home.
The American soldier is wearing eastern attire and eats with a fork and a spoon as he talks of his girlfriend who he hopes to marry. He says that he has a very good family back home in America who he misses very much. The identify of the soldier has not yet been released but the associated press says that his captors held the soldier's dog tag up to the camera with his name and ID number clearly visible at the start of the original video. The Associated Press however has not released his name or the ID number from his military ID tag.
The protocol is that the Pentagon has to release the identity of the captured soldier in Afghanistan and Congress has to be notified at the time that the captured soldier's familly is notified. The captured soldier says that the date of the video is July 14, 2009 and that he was captured when he lagged behind of his patrol in Afghanistan.
The captured American soldier's interview is done in English by his captors and is asked views about the war which he said is "extremely hard." The captured soldier said that the morale is low of the American soldiers in Afghanistan. He said that he was scared twice when his captor asked him how he was doing. "Well, I'm scared, scared I won't be able to go home. It is very unnerving to be a prisoner."
He is promted to give the following message to the American people through a sad low drawl holding back tears with the sound of sniffling throughout the video and this is the captured American's soldier's statement:
"To my fellow Americans who have loved ones over here, who know what it's like to miss them, you have the power to make our government bring them home. Please, please bring us home so that we can be back where we belong and not over here, wasting our itme and our lives and our precious life that we could be using back in our own country. Please bring us home. It is America and American people who have that power."
The Associated Press said that it was unclear if the date of the video of the captured American soldier in Afghanistan was authenic. The United States military, however, reported on July 2, 2009 that an American soldier had disappeared after walking off his base in eastern Afghanistan. The captured American soldier was reported missing on June 30 and has been listed as "duty status whereabouts unknown." The latest on the American efforts to free the captured American soldier in Afghanistan is that the U.S. efforts are "doing everything we can to return him safely."

fortunerep, thank you for your comment. I agree with you and would like to see what President Obama will do. He ordered the capture of the sea captain from the pirates by the navy seals sucessfullly but this is a different story. Surely one would wonder why did his patrol leave him or at least try to help him escape. I am not a soldier but you would expect that military comrads would not leave a fellow soldier to be captured. The video shows that he is not in cell as he spoke as I was expecting to see bars with him being fed with concrete walls as a backdrop. I agree with you that this is America and there are Americans in Afghanistan who should look after their comrads. Hopefully he will not be a MIA as the military has his identifying information.
I hope American people have power to ask Govt stop killing Muslim in most part of the word, Islam is peace full religion and is never allow any type of violence in any means but try to understand why afghani are doing like this because outsider are capture his country and killing daily innocent people.
So please change this policy and try to not kill innocent people in Afghanistan, if some people are criminal, terrorist bring it to them in front of word for justices they are not belongs to any religious. They are criminal but don’t blame Islam

Maia, thank you for your comment and your message for government to stop killing innocent people that happen to be in war torn areas.

I pray for this Soldier and his family. I can only imagine his fear, and I have been to many sites where people are saying cruel remarks about this Soldier. It angers me terriably because I know what its like to see your son on video and wanting him to only come home.
Army Infantry Mom, thank you for your comment. I pray also for the captured soldier's safe return home.
Is there any update on his status?
Aaron, thank you for your response. The captured soldier has been identified but there is no other information about his release. A hub has been written to that effect.
What was going on with his squad they should have known he was missing and went to find him imediatly. Even if he was last man they next guy is supposed to check to make sure he is still there. i guess they are lucky to not have been killed bc he was there rear security. those soldiers should have never gone back to base until they had acountability of him. "I will always place the misson first. I will never except defeat. I will never quit. I will never leave a fallen comrade." These soldiers were not living up to the warrior ethos. this is the shit that caused so many to be lost in October of '93.
Michael, thank you for your comment. Your passionate response is well received and it is agreed upon that the other soldiers should not have returned to the base without him.

This is america, if we were trying to get tis poor guy home he would be. We are allowing our gov. to treat our soldiers like the the Vietnam War with MIA's for years.
