Tin Signs

You see them all the time in bars, car garages and auto shops, especially in the movies, but did you realize that people collect tin signs?

Although, it is a different sort of collection, tin signs make an interesting conversation starter as to your hobbies. There are so many different types of signs, styles, and overall designs and themes, that a collection could be endless.

Personally, I have a few tin signs myself, most of which are animal related. My dad even has several car and automotive tin signs that he has around his shed and carport. So, as you can see from animals to automotive signs, there really is an assortment to check out, and they will all spark an interest in those who see them, not just for those who collect the signs.

Types of Tin Signs

There are a number of tin signs that you can collect, and when getting started with your collection, it may be a good idea to pick one or two types or themes of tin signs so that you don't get overwhelmed with all the choices.

When picking tin signs for your collection, just remember that you should buy what you like. You will find more enjoyment with your collection that way.

The more popular tin signs that you'll find in various tin sign collections may include some of the following.

  • Automotive
  • Beer brands and liquor
  • Betty Boop
  • Calendars
  • Celebrities
  • Cigarettes
  • Coca Cola
  • Cooking and kitchen
  • Direction and traffic
  • Home
  • Humor
  • Hunting and fishing
  • Inspirational
  • John Deere
  • Movies
  • Oil/gasoline and gas stations
  • Patriotic and Americana
  • Automotive
  • Sports
  • Thermometers
  • Vintage

These are just a few of the tin sign designs that you may want to add to your collection

Buying Tin Signs

No matter what kind of tin sign you are looking to add to your collection, you can always find an assortment of tin signs available.

When looking for tin signs, check out the following places:

  • Antique stores
  • eBay
  • Flea markets
  • Online collector's websites
  • Online stores
  • Yard sales

You will easily find that you can locate a number of wonderful tin signs, ranging from mass production signs to the rare and vintage signs from the early 1900s. No matter what theme or design of tin sign that you are looking for, you can nearly always find something, even if you are resorting to online stores.

For the best collection, I would recommend buying at low prices but high quality. You want to make sure that your tin signs are kept in top condition. If you display them on your wall, make sure that you dust them so that the loose dust and debris won't harm the paints on the tin.

I loved the "No Trespassing" sign. You picked some good ones. I get a chuckle out of the ambiguous road signs, like "Turn Right Here" with the arrow pointing left.

My husband used to work for Coca-Cola years ago...he had tons of those signs and metal trays....sigh. If he only knew then how valuable they would one day be...I love the old ones you see in Cracker Barrel restaurants around the country. =))
