How to Achieve the Perfect Vintage Look
Achieving a vintage style look on your wedding day is harder than it might seem. It is a case of finding, borrowing and shopping to your heart’s content so if you are not a shopaholic then you might to better off getting your friends and family to help.
You need to concentrate on ivory, creams and gold’s and this palette will looks sensational if mixed with antiqued dusky pinks and aged yellows. The fabrics you need to source are velvets, lace and antique silks.
If you buy a vintage wedding dress everything has been done for you by age. If you opt not to wear a previously owned wedding dress then look for a new dress with vintage details like lace pearls in a creamy ivory colour.
Your vintage wedding shoes can be difficult to obtain. Firstly vintage losses its edge when it comes to wedding shoes. We don’t really want to put our feet in other people’s shoes. Diane Hassall's range of vintage wedding shoes can solve this problem as all of the detail has been done for you from antique lace, big satin bows, hand crafted flowers and velvet ribbons.
Browse around old markets, second hand shops and charity shops, you can pick up some nice dress jewellery, old buttons and pearls. Even if the jewellery is broken, if it looks nice don't discount it. Stones can be removed and stitched on to fabrics for exquisite vintage detailing or scattered on tables for the reception.
For the jewellery you wish to wear it might be an idea to borrow your Mothers (or Mother in laws to be) pearls. Jewellery with a story behind it is always nicer than glass fake pearls.
Don't ever be tempted to buy new jewellery for a vintage style wedding it can take the edge off the day and you want every piece to have its own story which adds to the whole effect.
When choosing your bouquet opt more towards a posy style. Wrap together old English roses in creams, dusky pinks and yellows with sprigs of clover and rosemary. This effect will not only look vintage but will add that English country charm.
When setting your tables ask for a cream table cloth and sprinkle with rose petals and some of the old pearls you brought from the second hand shops and complete with napkins of the velvet, lace and the old silks that you picked up earlier.
