Day by day violence is growing into our society and work place is also not free from this risk. Particularly people who work in a public service sector are always under a risk of workplace violence. This could happen as some of the consumers might be unhappy with the service and they can go for destructive activities. Another type of criminal activities like armed robberies of public funds may also occur in case of the financial institution. Sometimes co-worker can also harm other colleagues out of some psychological problem. Whatever be the act of violence, it is very much demoralizing for all the employees of the office resulting in low productivity. It also incurs some extra cost to settle down the atmosphere to a normal one. However, this can be prevented to some extent if certain measures are taken by the authority.

First of all the authority should go through a process of risk assessment by identifying the factors which can invite a violent situation. The best way to do this is by consulting the staffs. They should gather information by interviewing the employees about their fear and concerns about safety. Even the employees can also suggest something constructive to ensure the safety of the work place and themselves. Gathering all this information, a practical plan to secure the work place should be made.

As an employee, you should also review the current security arrangements by individually checking them. Some equipment when not in use may get spoiled. If you feel that the arrangement is not sufficient to prevent the criminal activities, ask your company or office to invest some fund to install a full fledged security measure. A full fledged security means armed security personnel associated with various security attachments like hidden cameras, theft alarm etc. You can also strengthen the system by keeping a stun gun for use in case of extreme situations.

Finally, you should ask your fellow employees to increase their awareness about the activities within the work place. You can also arrange for some sort of formal training program, so that employees can act accordingly as soon as any unwanted incidence takes place.
