Desktop Pets
These are friendly little creatures that run around your desktop having fun, making mischief and sometimes growing up before your very eyes.
Some virtual pets need a lot of attention. They need to be fed, played with and cared for just like any other pet. Other creatures will just get on with their lives as if you aren’t there and you can watch fascinating interactions. Many will take instructions like, eat that icon or do a somersault!
One of the fun things is, you can have as many of these little creatures running around your desktop as you like. You can watch sheep jumping over cats and crazy dogs falling onto penguins.
These creatures are different to online pets- the kind that need an internet connection to interact with- and are happy to live on laptops and other portables.

Sheep
This is one of the most popular desktop pets ever. He is seriously addictive. He has more tricks and cute routines than any other virtual pet you've ever seen. He runs, jumps, gambols, eats daisies, climbs your windows and occasionally bursts into flames.
For such a little creature he is amazingle expressive. When he peers off the edge of a high window, you see just what he's thinking and when he falls, you have to feel for the little guy.
One of his best tricks is eating your desktop icons. If you drag something over to him he will gobble it up but he is always polite enough to return the icon to its proper place.
You can have as many sheep as you want but after two or three, it is absolute chaos. You can’t wait for the spaceship that sometimes comes to abduct the sheep, to turn up and whisk a few away.

Kamikaze Cat
This cat is crazy. He is a danger to himself as he scampers about the desktop getting into endless trouble, falling over windows and bumping into things. Luckily, as a cat, he has plenty of lives and will keep you entertained for a long time. You don't see much of his friend- Unlucky Dog- anymore.
The Creature
This little monster hatches out on your desktop and slowly grows and grows. He is one of the ugliest desktop pets ever created but fascinating in the way that he gets about and what he gets up to. From time to time he enjoys a little tickle.
Fox Family
This is a family of foxes that live on your desktop with their own burrow that you can see inside. Mother fox goes looking for food, digging holes and sometimes fighting with the badger who lives in the bottom corner of your screen. The little foxes scamper about like any curious creatures.
Puppy
He is super cute as he runs and jumps then disappears from your desktop only to reappear falling from the sky! He is the perfect animal for someone who doesn’t want to take too trouble over their pet. He never asks to go for a walk in the rain. You don’t need to feed him and he will never, ever die.
Neko the Cat
He is a quiet sort of pet. He likes to watch the mouse pointer as you work or play. Necko is perfect if you just want a little company and not too much mayhem.

Pets that need looking after.
RSPCA Pets
The RSPSA (the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) is one of the biggest animal charities in the world. They offer three desktop pets which need grooming, feeding and playing with. There is a cat, a rabbit and a dog.
They are sweet as they play on your desktop but if you forget to look after them they start to complain! A woof or a meow soon catches your attention and lets you know that it is time for food or play. Sometimes, though, you just have to send them to bed.
