Vitamins, as the name implies, are vital to maintain the healthy functioning of our many body functions. Without them we can’t live, and with low levels of the different vitamins we’ll start suffering vitamin deficiencies and the related symptoms.

Luckily, vitamin deficiencies are not a common problem, as most of us get enough amounts from our diet and lifestyle. They are more common in countries where nutrition is not well balanced, but we can all suffer from a deficiency problem given the specific circumstances. We could eat the right food but have a problem absorbing the vitamin due to the interaction with a medicine for example.

Below you’ll find more information on the different deficiencies of vitamins.

How to Prevent Vitamin Deficiencies

The great majority of use won’t need to go great lengths in order to prevent problems with vitamins. We live our life in such a way that we get our nutrients and vitamins naturally, yet it would be a good idea to take a good look at our diet and check out what is missing.

It is also recommended to take a multi-vitamin supplement every day in order to keep our body well provided.  There are many brands in the market that offer these kinds of products.  The need for a supplement is even more important in the case of pregnant/breastfeeding women.  This is a time for many changes in women’s bodies, there are a lot of imbalances that are better to cover.  Luckily, there are supplements that have been created with the pregnant women in mind, with higher doses of vitamins.

What about The Opposite – Can We Get Too Much Vitamins?

Yes! You see, as always in life the best thing is to balance both ends of the spectrum.  There are cases where you can suffer the effects of vitamin toxicity, where we abuse of supplementation.  It is better to consult with a doctor about the right levels of vitamin in your case.
