There are numerous other beneficial supplements available on the market today which aren't technically VITAMINS, but they do have many healing and supportive qualities. However, the 13 essentails are necessary for the body to function properly. an inadequate amount of the essential could lead to immune system weakness, disease, or even death if not treated.

Besides the essentials, omega 3 supplements and omega 3 vitamins is a great place to start on supplemental nutrition.

A Bit About Multivitamins

Most multivitamins on the markets contain the essentials listed above. Usually they contain 100% of the daily value or RDA (recomended daily allowance). However, 100% of the daily value is usually measured as the minimum a person must take in order to avoid diffenciency in any given essential. Most dieticians actually recomend taking much more Vitamin C, Vitamin E, B1, B3, and B5 than 100% (sometimes a clinician may even recommend 10,000% of the B1 allowance).

Also, it is important to find out the processing method of the vitamins. Make sure the source of the nutrients in a multivitamin isn't China, and cold processed vitamins are always better than heat processed vitamins (i.e. vitamins that come as a powder in capsules are better than hard pills).

Finally, some common non-essential supplements to look for in a common multivitamin are: Lycopene, Quercetin, Boron, Milk Thistle, Reveratrol, and L-Carnatine.

The author correctly points out that certain key vitamins and nutritional supplements are essential for the proper functioning of the human body. Especially considering that today most people don’t eat a healthy balanced diet that provides their body with these essential nutrients.

In addition to the authors points there are a few more points to consider when selecting vitamins:

First, since vitamins and nutritional supplements are not regulated as heavily as drugs are, some of the quality can be inferior. Beware of “cheap vitamins” most of these are made in China under no controls and quality is NOT assured. In fact consider yourself lucky if they don’t make you sick. Additionally, some hard tablets pass through your system the same way they went in, hence your body gets no nutritional benefit. Additionally, many of these tablets are large and difficult to swallow hence the term “horse pills”. Liquid vitamins on the other hand are easier to swallow but many of the vitamins have a tendency to degrade more quickly than tablets or pills.

One interesting product that works around both of these deficiencies is sold by Sun and Earth Vitamins. They are EZ Melt tablets that dissolve in your mouth thereby ensuring availability to the body but also are more intrinsically stable than liquid vitamins, which are more prone to oxidative degradation. Best of all they are made in USA. under strict quality standards.
