Voltage regulators are a specific type of devices that are used in technological items that require a certain amount of voltage in order to function. It helps to regulate and send a constant stream of voltage and is used is almost every technological device that we own and that is powered through electricity.

The most common of the regulators is the alternator voltage regulator. This is used with alternators in cars to help keep the battery charged at all times and functioning when we need it. It does this by keeping a constant level of voltage moving from the alternator to the battery. However, it does it in such a way to keep from killing the battery.

The linear voltage regulator is another type that is used in some of the more basic electronic items. It is simple to use and most always works. It uses a well balanced voltage current that will apply the right amount of voltage and make it available to the regulator output terminal. This helps to make it come at the right value in order to work.

Last but not least you have the PC voltage regulator - which (as you can guess) is used in computers. The regulator will control the voltage that is sent to the microprocessor of the computer. In most home computers it is able to generate five volts - but most only need 3.5.
