U ME AUR HUM REVIEWS

Bollywood is definitely evolving. 'Pyaar' seemed to be the only word that demanded titanic volumes at the box office till around 3-4 years back. Today, bollywood touches ur heart in a subtler manner, with pyaar innovated with better recipes and a wider range contexts. Ajay Devgan is no exception to this change. With his new movie, 'U, me aur hum', he's definitely back...but as always the case is with any ajay devgan movie...'he could have done better'... he did better sitting on the director's chair than in front of the cams.

The movie sequences have been designed well. The first half is painted with colour and energy. Its the story of Ajay and Pia (Kajol) falling in love, while on a cruise. She's a cocktail waitress in the boat, and he's holidaying it out with his friends. The beauty of the first half is that u'll never guess that Ajay is a psychiatrist, and there r little hints abt Kajol's disease that would kindle curiosity in a viewer who's heard nothing abt the movie before the show.

Unless u watch the second half, u wouldn't even give a 1 on 5 rating to the first half. The first thing that'll strike u is the contrast between the two halfs. After Ajay and his friends realise that Pia is under the torment of Alzheimer's, its a wonderful portrayal of how their life changes. Matrimonial life can never be void of problems. The movie shows that for true love to blossom and sustain, a couple needs to go through difficult times together, hand-in-hand, never for a moment letting their true dedication to each other down.

The irony that's also shown is that Ajay, as a doctor is consulted by a lady whose husband is overcome by a mental disorder of sorts. He advises her to take every effort in caring for him, but eventually he himself, is forced to live away from Pia, as a sanitarium becomes her new home, under expert medical advice.

Kajol's acting is appreciable. Her sudden phases of reclusion, forgetfulness, and at the same time reconciliation and bubbliness have been executed well. The scene where she puts her baby in the bathtub, and gets distracted to forget abt her baby is awesome.

The trouble with the whole movie is the lack of chemistry. Personally speaking, i felt it. Ajay Devgan and kajol may be couples in real life, but on reel life, this time they didn't quite appear dynamic. The movie might have been overhyped. So if u go with great expectations, u may feel a tiny tinge of disappointment. The emotions stayed on with Ajay's dialogues. But they didn't work the hydraulics in our eyes so easily. The most significant dialogues should have been brought out far better, and it would have made a great difference.
