A question is put - what is beauty?.

I like to answer in simple words, without quotations.

In everybody's experience, beauty is that which attracts.It mat be the features, figure, character, knowledge, modesty, anything!Beauty always delights. Beauty is that which involenterily attracts appreciation.Beauty lies in the viewer. To some extent, in the object too. The appreciater understands and appreciates beauty according to his culture and taste.That which doesn;t delights one, is not recognised by him as 'beauty'

It is often said that beauty is ever living. This should not be taken in verbal sense. Its meaning is- the beautiful object may perish. But the delightfulness it created, the joy it spread, the divinity it aroused, the warmth, they never die. In that sense, beauty is always eternal.It is in this sense only Keats declared-'A thing of beauty is a joy for ever'.

Recently, one reader of this article has reacted that beauty lies in character, not in appearence. He is correct as for as the philosophical side of the concept is concerned. But here we are discussing bout the practical meaning of beauty i.e.-what external characters of a thing makes us to call it 'beautiful'? From this angle, it is necessetry to say that athing, to be called beautiful, should have good features, good workmanship, neatness, and such other characteristics that blossom our mind.
