WORKING FROM HOME, MAKING IT WORK FOR EVERYONE
54It was Spring break. The kids were loose from school. And I am the world's Dullest Mother.
Unlike every other school family, we were not off to Mexico, or visiting a theme park aday, because in this family I work at home (Of course, my girls took a road trip to Calif.) for their spring break.
It was sure quiet here. But on the other days I also have kid duties. I make them cheese omletes and I hold up two fingers and say "Two hours," I say, " in my office, no interuptions. If you interupt me for even one minute, add 15 min.clear? They groan- then I give 1 hour to them. I spend on what they want and need. My usual hours are from 7 am to 1;30 pm I stay off the computer. Then I get back on after 6:00 pm for an hour or so.
My kids call my home office hours abuse- I call them boundaries.
you know 2.5 million women start businesses each year, about two- thirds from home. Mean while, millions more search of Balance (Ha, Ha!!) have fled bonafied offices to be virtual employees at home.
of course, working from home has pluses- you get the best parking space
bad hair days don't affect your work performance and you can defrost chicken without getting salmonella.
But there must be more to it. So this week, as my kids stretch their gumby bodies over and under my desk, and begging for attention or transportation or money- or all three, I grew curious about what tips I could get from others. You know we all could use as many tips as we can get.
Even as determined as I am and can get I still have my slump days.Where I get frustrated and think what is all this really for?I get discouraged because I think others just do not get any of what I say or put out there. Some days are really bad for me as I have worked so long and hard but sometimes see no results, or actually I should say not the results I want to see. Maybe I am just being to impatient.
Well if any one has any tips to offer others please post them and share.
We could all use encourgement and be uplifted from time to time.
