Female Wrestler-Layla El
73WWE Diva Layla El
WWE Diva Layla El was born on June 25, 1978 in London, England.
Before
she joined the ranks of WWE Divas, Layla was a dancer for Carnival
Cruise Lines, the NBA's Miami Heat and she also danced at the MTV Video
Music Awards during a number by Kanye West.
Layla got into pro wrestler after her trainer suggested that she try out for the 2006 $250,000 WWE Diva Search.
Despite
a few controversial moments in the competition, she won the Diva
Search, beating JT Tinney and Jen England in the finals.
This made Layla the first black diva to win the WWE Diva Search.
After
her unforgettable "hazing" by the other Divas at the August 20, 2006
SummerSlam pay-per-view, Layla officially joined their ranks.
Layla
was then sent to WWE SmackDown where she did one interview with Mike
"The Miz" Mizanin then mysteriously vanished for several weeks until
finally reappearing on September 22nd episode of SmackDown!
Layla
quickly got into it with Kristal and Jillian Hall then vanished again
for a few weeks before showing up at the October 8, 2006 No Mercy
pay-per-view.
Layla finally made her in-ring debut during the
Diva Trick-or-Treat Battle Royal on October 24th. She lost when she was
pulled from the ring apron by The Miz, which started a feud between The
Miz and Kristal, and Layla and The Boogeyman.
Layla then moved
to ECW on January 23rd 2007 where I pretty much lost track of her
because I just dont like the reanimated corpse of a show they call ECW.
It has nothing to do with the original and it just makes me mad to try
to watch it.
ANYWAY....Layla went to WWE Raw as part of the
2008 WWE Supplemental Draft, making her the first Diva to achieve a
"hat trick" having worked for all three brands.
She turned heel
(technically she turned heel on ECW, but like I said, I didn't watch
any of that), teamed up with Jillian Hall then started a story line
with Jamie Noble that involved him trying to impress her. The
convoluted story continued until Layla finally wound up joining fellow
Brit William Regal. For a brief time her name was changed to "Layla
London" but I think that kinda faded because she's refereed to as Layla
El and Layla at WWE.com now.
Outside of the WWE, Layla has
appeared in several magazines including King, JET, Smooth, Liquid, FHM
and along with Beth Phoenix and Candice Michelle, she appeared in FLEX
Magazine's February 2009 issue.
I think Layla is one of the most
beautiful Diva's the WWE has. But I also think if she's gonna be a
Diva, they need to train her and get her into the ring more.
She has a good ring presence and good mic skills. With the proper training, she could really stand out.
It looks like the WWE took me seriously. Layla has been getting a lot more actual ring time as of late. Even getting to score the pinfall on the WWE Women's Wrestling Champ Melina in a six woman tag team match on Smackdown.
