WWE Divas

World Wresting Entertainment (WWE) has always been known for putting on its fun brand of sports entertainment involving male wrestlers competing in the ring in wrestling matches.  In addition to the male wrestlers, there's also female wrestlers.  These talented and beautiful women are known as the WWE Divas.

Many argue as to who the first official WWE diva was.  Was it Miss Elizabeth a well known valet/manager for Macho Man Randy Savage?  Or perhaps it was one of the first major women wrestlers to achieve big success, the Fabulous Moolah?  Many wrestling fans contend, the first official diva was Tammy Lynn Sytch, who was best known as "Sunny".  The bubbly blond first started out as a ringside valet/manager for the Bodydonnas, then went on to do more and more work as a backstage interviewer/personality for WWE.  She managed other tag teams including the Smoking Gunns and Legion of Doom during her illustrious divas career.  Sunny rarely wrestled as a diva, but her beauty and fun personality added a lot to the WWE shows of yesteryear.

WWE's Monday Night Raw show airs every Monday night at approximately 9PM EST on the USA cable channel.  There's plenty of beautiful female wrestlers on this particular show.  Current Raw divas include: Mickie James, Kelly Kelly, the Bella Twins, Rosa Mendes, Jillian Hall, Beth Phoenix and Maryse.  Maryse, a French-Canadian female wrestler was drafted to Raw from Smackdown and at the time she made her move to Raw, she was the WWE Divas Champion.

In the 2009 WWE Draft, Smackdown received a gem of a pick when WWE Diva Melina was drafted to their show.  Melina was the WWE Womens Champion at the time she was drafted to the new show.  Also on Smackdown are divas such as Maria Kanellis, Candice Michelle, Alicia Fox, Gail Kim, Layla El, Eve Torres and Michelle McCool.

The ECW currently has the fewest divas of the three WWE television programs.  However, ECW is also run by a diva.  Its interim general manager is Tiffany (Taryn Terrell) who took over when Theodore Long chose to go back to running Smackdown.  The beautiful blond boss has made great strides in her career and is always easy on the eyes, even when she's reprimanding ECW superstars! 

ECW has two other divas, who act more as ringside valets for wrestlers.  Katie Lea is the sister of wrestler Paul Burchill and accompanies him to the ring, while also playing a part in his matches.  Natalya Neidhart is a relative of famous wrestler Jim "the Anvil" Neidhart, and she currently is part of a stable in ECW consisting of Tyson Kidd and David Hart Smith, who is the son of legendary wrestler the British Bulldog.

The WWE Divas are full blown sports entertainment celebrities. They not only appear in the wrestling ring during the weekly television shows for WWE, but also have appeared in numerous venues and projects outside of WWE.

- A bunch of the WWE Divas appeared in the The Hives-Timbaland music video for "Throw it on Me". The divas in the video included Ashley Massaro, Torrie Wilson, Layla El, Kelly Kelly, Brooke Adams, and Maryse.

- Several WWE Divas appeared nude in Playboy magazine. The first to do so was Sable, followed by other divas such as Chyna, Torrie Wilson, Ashley Massaro, Candice Michelle and Maria Kanellis.

- Divas such as Layla El, Torrie Wilson, Beth Phoenix and Ashley Massaro have appeared on the cover of magazines such as Smooth, Muscle & Fitness and in articles for the magazines as well.

- Former WWE Diva Ashley Massaro appeared on the hit reality television show, Survivor China. Ashley was eliminated during the first several weeks of competition.

- WWE Divas Jillian Hall and ring announcer diva Lillian Garcia each have released musical works, sold on iTunes. Jillian Hall released a Christmas album, which was mostly done jokingly to showcase her diva character's "singing talents". Lillian Garcia's albums have been more serious and feature ballads in both English and Spanish. Lillian has been known to sing the National Anthem for WWE events as well.
