Activities In Oahu!

When traveling to Oahu, or any part of Hawaii for that matter, you will find the people to be very friendly. On my adventure we stayed in Waikiki. For people that have never been there to visit, it is quite breathe taking, from the beaches to the luau's. When making your reservations to stay in Hawaii be sure to take advantage of the attractions that are offered. The first thing I would suggest is to visit Pearl Harbor , and if you have children this is a great opportunity for them to be exposed to so much history. When you actually set foot on the USS Arizona Memorial that was built in memory of the sailors that gave their lives for us, you will get such a feeling that travels all through your body. It really makes you stop and think about what exactly happened on December 7th 1941, you feel a kind of connection as if you where there.

Now, if you enjoy hiking you will want to go to Diamond Head. This is a volcanic crater at 3,520 feet in diameter with a 760-foot summit and there is an observation deck at the top, where you can see everything for miles. The tunnel that was built is very unique, with 76 stairs on the first tier, 99 on the second, and 54 on the third to reach the summit. With people sharing the same stair way and going in two different directions, this can make it a little difficult at times, it is suggested to bring a flash light. But, it is well worth the hike once you get to the top. For those that are worried about the climb, it is a moderate climb. Just be sure to drink plenty of water, there is no water on your way up so you will want to bring your own.

Another place you will want to visit is the Dole Pineapple Plantation. Here, you will see just how the pineapples are grown and get a chance to walk through there beautiful garden. If you were to fly over head, it is shaped just like a pineapple. They also have one of the largest walk through mazes I have ever seen. If your not paying close attention you might have a real hard time finding your way out. There are check points all through the maze you will have to find. They also serve some of the best ice cream I have ever tasted.

You can also visit the north shore, where you will find many of the beaches that host a lot of the surf contests. Of course, the big waves only break at certain times of the year. But, there are a lot of nice little shops you can walk through while you visit. We also went to the Botanical Garden in Waimea Bay. Here, we seen cliff divers and they also performed a hula dance. After the show we were able to take pictures with the divers and the dancers.

If you walk down town in Waikiki, you can visit the International Market Center, where you will find many different shops. A lot of the items you purchase, you may be able to purchase a little cheaper at the Aloha Stadium swap meet. The swap meet is held only a few times out of the week so ask someone at your hotel.

One thing me and my family did not do when we were there but, heard it was absolutely wonderful was visit the Polynesian Culture Center. If we were to go again I would definitely try this. A Luau is a must when visiting Hawaii, this is included when you visit the Polynesian culture center . There are so many things to do when you visit Hawaii like, Horse Back Riding, you can swim with the dolphins at Sea Life Park, visit the Aquarium, go to the Waikiki Zoo, you can also drive to Pali Look Out. Here, you won't want to get to close to the edge and be sure to hang on to young children. The winds that come up through the valley, and up the sides of the cliffs can blow you right off the side. Well I hope this helps you in your visit to Oahu.
