Wal-Mart was in the news earlier this week when the company unveiled its new prepaid cell phone plans.  This was news because when Wal-Mart decides to throw its weight behind something, it means the market will be affected and other companies take notice.

The prepaid phones Wal-Mart will be selling are actually plans created by TracFone under the name of Straight Talk.  The Straight Talk brand consists of two plans.  One is a $30 plan and the other costs $45.

The $45 plan is an Unlimited prepaid plan, which means that those who purchase this plan get unlimited use of their phone for talk time, text messaging, 411 calls, and even web browsing.  This last part--the limitless web browsing--was a later addition to the plan that truly makes it that much more appealing.  The Straight Talk plans are two of the best plans in the cell phone industry.  The are the best priced, they have good handset selection, and they have ample talk time and other benefits.

Another thing to know about Straight Talk, which is available online and at Wal-Mart locations around the country, is that the plans run on the country's strongest networks, Verizon. This means subscribers to these plans have excellent coverage across the country.

Read more about these plans at the official website and in some other Hubs I've written about them.

Why Would I want a Straight Talk prepaid plan?

TracFone's Straight Talk has two plan options which may be good for different kinds of cell phone users.

If you are a heavy phone user--in other words, you talk a lot, you text a lot, and you browse the web often from your handset--then you may be interested in the Unlimited Straight Talk plan, which retails at $45.

The second option is a cheaper prepaid plan--it costs $30--and it's good for more moderate mobile phone users. Still, 1,000 minutes and 1,000 text messages should suffice for most people. And this is what you get with this plan for the very low monthly price.
