Walking and Weight Loss

Run, Forest Run! (But Don't Walk to Lose Weight)
Walking and weight loss seems to go together like peanut butter and jelly. But in reality, it takes a whole lot of walking to see any significant pound shedding. That’s no fun when you have a lot of weight to lose and you’ve spent an hour of your day hoofing it up and down the sidewalk or walking in place on the treadmill.
There’s a reason many people walk to lose weight – they’re hoping they don’t have to forgo their favorite foods. Being able to “walk off” that double dip ice cream cone makes it easier to say, “I can’t have that.”
But you don’t have to use the walking and weight loss formula to succeed in losing fat and getting slim. There are much faster ways to lose weight that don’t force you to trek through your neighborhood.
Are You Telling Me NOT to Walk?
Of course not. Walking is a heart healthy activity that everyone should do - and it's not a good idea to sit idle and let your body become inactive. But when it comes to walking to lose weight, there's simply a better way.
Numbers don't lie.
Let's say you weigh 180 pounds and you want to lose 2 pounds a week. If you walk one hour at a pace of 3 mph, you'll burn 356 calories. So you'll have to walk for almost 10 hours a week just to shed a single pound - 20 hours if you want to lose 2 pounds a week.
Now let's focus on food. Cut 500 calories a day and you lose a pound a week. If you're overweight, chances are you're consuming plenty to be able to cut those 500 calories.
Walking and Weight Loss Paired With Normal Eating
What's the best way to lose weight? Keep on walking to lose weight, but pair it with some normal eating habits that enable you to keep your favorite foods on the menu, but eat less.
That doesn't mean portion control, either. Knowing you have to measure and weigh food is just a grueling as facing a 20 hour walking schedule each week. Instead, learn how to lose weight by returning to your instinctual eating habits - you know the kind you were born with?
Eat when hungry, and stop when you're not. It's so simple, and yet it's rare to see anyone who does this these days. We have a good food, bad food list - we force feed ourselves to eat diet foods we don't enjoy, and we sabotage ourselves in other ways.
None of those methods will help you lose weight and keep it off for the long haul. In fact, they may damage your metaboism and cause you to pack on more pounds than you started out with.

Do You Enjoy Walking and Weight Loss or Want to Give It Up?
You will look better if you lose weight doing some exercise as well as eating sensible.
I have a little trick: when I am in front of the Mac I set a timer to 45 minutes - when the alarm starts I grab my hula hoops and use it for around 3 minutes. It does not burn a lot of calories but it does keep the metabolism up all day - and ask me about my waist line :-).
Best
Its got to be less calories and exercise. My breakfast is an apple and peanut butter for protein. Lunch might be a chunk of cheese and then a dinner. And sometimes I cheat but then I just consider that my meal. I have lost 24 pounds but at a rate of 1-2 pounds a week. Gaot another 24 to go. I gained while on a medication. Walking believe it or not just doesn't do a thing for me so I swim and do the reclining bike. Oh I'm under a dr's care for this.
I think walking can help you stay fit and maintain your weight.
My parents are in their late 50s and early 60s respectively, and they do a lot of walking. They have a collie, and they tend to go on 12 to 15 mile walks at the weekend.
Walking, for me, is one of the safest form of exercise. It can help you a lot in maintaning a healthy heart. Also there are some studies that prove that walking indeed help in losing weight. Just make sure though that you're walking in a proper way and with the correct pacing.
I walk and I try to exercise a bit too, besides eating smaller meals. My weight generally remains static, but climbs the moment I indulge in the chocolates or fried stuff.
And this is of late. I could eat any amount and not put on an ounce...suppose my metabolism is slowing down. :(
Actually, you get the same health/weight loss benefits from walking, that you get from jogging without all the stress on your joints. Tons and Tons of folks have lost tons and tons of weight by walking and eating healthy. Check out Leslie Sansone's website and Walk Away The Pounds. You don't have to jog or run and beat the crap out ouf your joints, to get healthy and loose weight. For those who like to run, go for it. BUt to say that it takes a whole lot of walking to see any significant pound shedding, is just not true. I've lost 70 pounds in 14 months with no other exercise besides walking, and eating healthier.

I do spent a lot of time walking around in the neighborhood and at the mall. Yep, walking is not enough to lose some pounds but adding a sport or exercise would be a good combination.
Thanks for the compliment. Sure Do!!!
Have a great day..
