Walking for Weight Loss Help You Lose Big!

It's a proven fact that walking everyday can help you lose weight. Unfortunately, walking around your neighborhood, day after day can get a little tiresome. There are many walking exercises that you can do to bring a little variety and fun to your workout. As an added bonus, you won't have to worry about your neighbor's dog chasing you down the street.

It's Easy to Start Walking for Weight Loss

Use some of these tips to get yourself walking to weight loss!

  • Set goals. Promise yourself that you'll walk 1 mile the first week, 2 miles the second week, etc.
  • Do it with friends! Start a walking club. Walk around your local neighborhood or at the mall at a set time every day or various times throughout the week!
  • Use a pedometer to track your progress. How many steps are you getting in everyday? Set goals.
  • Keep track of your walking in a journal to track your progress.
  • Find new places to walk! The same routine after a while can get boring.
  • Utilize fun DVDs that will help motivate you to get in that extra mile everyday!



Where to Walk to Lose Weight

There are tons of new places that you can explore while walking to lose weight.

  • Did you know that the National Park Service oversees 391 areas in the U.S. that cover more than 84 million acres? There is definitely a beautiful park or trail for you to visit in your state, check out NPS.org for a great idea on where to spend your weekend!
  • Walk at the mall! Treat yourself to a new item or a low calorie frozen yogurt smoothie in the food court everytime you do a set number of laps.
  • Walk at an indoor running track. Most colleges and universities that have these allow the public to use them.
  •  If you live on the coast, take walks alongside the ocean and enjoy the scenic views.

There are several fun videos that you can use at home, with or without a treadmill, to starting walking for weight loss!

  • Pedometers - Get a pedometer to track how many steps you take a day and set goals to increase your walking. The average person that uses a pedometer walks an additional 1,200 steps a day!
