I own a ton of books on Los Angeles, including many that include "walking tours." I think I even held onto a tome titled L.A. Shortcuts, full of shortcuts for drivers, published in the early 90s. As you might imagine, it went out of date quickly and became pretty much useless.

So I'm happy to recommend a new book, City Walks: Los Angeles. I can give it my whole-hearted seal of approval for the following reasons:

1. It's new, just published, and is NOT out-of-date
2. Author Eric Hiss has lived in Los Angeles for years and is a well-known travel writer
3. He's really nice

OK, maybe reason number 3 should not part you with your hard-earned cash. But the first two are good and valid.

If you live in Los Angeles or are planning a trip here, this is the book to buy. If you want to dream of walking around here when the snow piles up around your front door in a few months, this book can facilitate your fantasies.
