The safe, in one form or another, has been in use for centuries. Ever since people have had valuables to simultaneously store and protect, there have been safes. As time went on, the safe became more and more specialized and complex. Some safes encompass entire rooms, such as bank vaults and other high security storage facilities. Others are quite small, resembling small suitcases or even disguised as everyday objects such as books or even soda cans. But one kind of safe is quickly becoming very popular among new home builders and buyers alike. The wall safe, once only associated with the very rich or paranoid, are quickly becoming more common in the every day home. Not just for theft prevention, wall safes can also protect your valuables from the elements!

What are Wall Safes?

Like any safe, wall safes are lockable boxes or cylinders designed to keep valuables safe from theft or outside harm. This means that your all safe will protect what ever you put into it from theft, fire, floods, hurricanes, or what ever else the world can throw at it, assuming you purchase a quality model. What sets wall safes apart from most other kinds of safes is that they are built directly into the wall of your home or office. This allows for a supremely secure location to place anything you may want to keep safe right there in your own home or office! Wall safes can also be easily camouflaged with a variety of wall decorations such as paintings or tapestries. While this is by no means necessary, some find it to be an added level of security.

Types of Wall Safes

While the general construction of all wall safes are roughly the same, how you gain access to what's inside can vary greatly. Many people don't like the idea of keyed access, while others love the convenience. Still others want the added security of the entry code, or will even opt for the new biometric entry devices. What ever kind of wall safe you choose, make sure it will fit your personality. That may sound silly, but if you forget things a lot, a key to look after may not be the best thing in the world. Or perhaps you forget numbers easily. An entry code would be a possible nightmare in that case.

  • Many standard wall safes feature the classic keyed entry. These safes operate much the same way your front door does. Simply insert the correct key, turn, and pull the handle. Many people who are less concerned with theft and more concerned with fire or other natural disasters will often choose these safes.
  • Combination wall safes are what many people consider the classic type of safe. These safes have either a dial or electronic key pad that the correct combination of numbers must be punched or dialed into to open the safe door. Many consumers and companies use this kind of safe almost exclusively, because there is no key to look after or have stolen, and figuring out a number combination is almost impossible.
  • The biometric wall safe is a new kind of safe that is taking the market by storm. These wall safes feature a biometric entry system which actually verifies the owner's fingerprint as the entry mechanism. Many people consider these wall safes to be both the easiest to use, as there is no key nor combination to remember or dial in, and the safest as duplicating a fingerprint would be impossible in all but the most extreme cases.

What ever kind of wall safe you choose, you can rest assured that your valuables are as protected as they can be, within reason. Not even a hurricane or the complete incineration of a home can harm most wall safes. If you have anything at all that you absolutely cannot replace or do without, do yourself a favor. Invest in a wall safe.

There was gold in these here mountains. Billions worth, and much of it was layed over, for hours or months, in the many safes and vaults this town once had, far past the national per-capita. Today, if you swing open those two-ton doors and peer into the crevices, little remains of the treasure but a collection of stories.
