Wanna Know About Breathe Carolina?
73"Don't you want to wear my diamonds?!"
Keyboards, keytars, Midi keyboards, ANYTHING WITH KEYS, no wait what is that, a Gui-Tar?
"Oh, Hello Fascination!"
This is where I set the stage, my darlings. Breathe Carolina, the brain child of David Schmitt and Kyle Even, is one of the most dynamic and popular Electronic/ Screamo bands to date. The catchy pop-engergized choruses flow over and under the brilliant techno/dance keystrokes of these two young, Denver,Colorado born, gentlemen. They woo fans and concert attendees with suave verses and deeply sexual inuendos(David Schmitt), then devour crowds with intense high-pitched screeches (Kyle Even) that rattle them to their bones.
Trust me, you feel the energy. <3
The duo's story behind the creation of their dance-infused music, that's rapidly gaining popularity across the board, begins on one snowy afternoon in Denver, Colorado. Bored out of their minds, and with only a laptop(with questionable software, maybe a Mac with Garageband) decided to just make a little diddy, nothing too special, about the snowy winter they were currently experiencing. And "Snowed In" was born! Heavily influenced with the all too familiar jingle of bells and the mellow sounds of that special time of the year, yes I speak of Christmas. David leads with his soft, yet highly unique voice, and Kyle does back-up with beautiful high-pitched overtones of "So we will say our last goodbyes
as we leave Christmas behind". Definitely a must to scower the interwebs for and download.
David and Kyle continued their experimentation with music on Garageband, this is for certain. In 2007, Breathe Carolina was official, signed, enveloped, and the sender didn't return it. The name was completely original, came directly from the subconscious of David while he slept one night many, many ages ago. At age 9, David dreamed that he was having to calm a woman down named Carolina, and BAM! Instant Awesome! In 2007, the electronica/ screamo aggregation, Breathe Carolina, known to few at the time, found their way on to the social-networking site Myspace, and to say the least; they weren't known to just a few for very long.
10,000 plays later! The Denver boys were exploding, and had growing a fan base that bands at their stage would've killed for. Next came Breathe Carolina's iTunes Exclusive "Gossip EP", released on November 26, 2007, which included:
"The Introduction", "No Vacancy", "Show Me Yours", "Classified", "That's Classy", and "You Wish" and "Don't Forget: Lock The Door."
And if you hadn't torrented the songs before then, NOW you could officially purchase them. Support for the two grew and grew over the course 2007 and 2008, until September 16, 2008, the day of the release of "It's Classy, Not Classic", Breathe Carolina's official LP. Every song on the album was recorded by David and Kyle on GarageBand with no record label recording studio, nothing. With their creative genius secure in the form their recorded album, they signed with Rise Records and then, following the release of their debut LP, found themselves headling "The Delicious Tour" with Every Avenue, BrokeNCYDE, and The Morning Of. That same year on November 26, 2008, the Breathe Carolina boyz released their very first music video for "Diamonds", which is one of the videos I included on this Hub. <3
2009 arrived, and oh was it year for David and Kyle. The two's band participated in "Punk Goes Pop 2" with their amazing cover of "See You Again" by Miley Cyrus and just months later announced their signing to Fearless Records and the upcoming second installment being "Hello Fascination", yes this would be a studio recording, finally! As their fan base grew during 2009 in anticipation for "Hello Fascination", Breathe Carolina were placed on the Warped Tour set list and played at every tour date they could. Because of this more people weren't not only exposed to the duo's music, but also got to experience their live performances which have surprisingly recieved some much needed compliments, such as "impressive" from AbsolutePunk.
On August 18, 2009, "Hello Fascination" was released and from my experience with exposing my friends who tended to "Hate" Breathe Carolina, let's just say everyone of them have bought the. While still keeping the dance-pop feel, David composed these brand new songs with guitar influences and a diverse selection of samples and synthy keytar riffs. "Hello Fascination" has a lack of the R&B feel of "Diamonds", but introduces a whole new side of the band and almost a whole new genre. Techno and light guitar combined create beautiful breakdowns followed by a gratifying loss of the auto-tuned voice David sported in most of the songs from "It's Classy, Not Classic", with the exception of "Take Me To Infinity", but it's more like Daft Punk anyway, so it's cool.
Really amazing band, and I definitely suggest you take a little listen, if you've heard of BREATHE CAROLINA, that is. It would be greatly appreciated.
