Ever wonder how people can walk their dog without a leash and the dog never runs away or chases an animal or goes to walk up to someone else? this is actually a very simple process in the long process of training a puppy and for people who are reading that think their dog may be too old to learn let me let you in on a secret the guy that said you cant teach an old dog new tricks was a liar.

so anyways this is actually a very simple process its just may take a little time, all you really have to do is get your puppy or dog a training lead and collar and i think i paid 12 dollars total for the setup i have and believe it or not you don't need a choke chain or a pinch collar or even a shock collar the collar i have for my puppy is just like every other collar you would find at your average pet store the only difference is at the top of the collar it has a small chain that only allows the collar to tighten up a bit not actually choking your dog just letting your dog know that you are in charge and you don't want him wandering away from you.

so here is how i did it i walked my puppy for about 3-4 weeks only allowing him about 6 inches of slack from my hand to the collar every time he would try to run or walk away from me or chase anything i just gave a little tension on the collar until he would slow down and wait for me to catch up, this is what your dog needs to learn, he will eventually learn that when he walks by you the tension on the collar is loose and unrestricted when he tries to leave your side the collar tightens up and stops him from going anywhere you have to make sure that he has all the slack you can give him until he starts trying to get away though that is the most important part make him feel like he has freedom as long as he is standing or walking next to you

Really its not that hard and you can have a very enjoyable time taking your dog for a walk when he isn't constantly trying to run away from you, you will even be able to take him out to the park or wherever and play fetch with him and he will always come back because he will know his safe zone is by your side unless instructed to do otherwise
