War Peace and Human Nature
64Human history is indeed filled with war, bloodshed and misery. Suppose you observe our planet from above, having a worldwide perspective. It truly is a theatre of hostility. Human nature has puzzled all great philosophers and thinkers, from past to present. Religions have their own version about humans and their destiny, but in practice these also failed to improve human nature. So, what is really going on? It has been said that humans are spiritual beings, but reality disproves this thesis. Aristotle said that humans are socialized animals and I'm inclined to agree with him. It is innate in human nature to dominate and exert control one another. This reminds me of Darwin's theory "the survival of the fittest", which translated into historical terms, means domination of one over another and thus one nation over another. The need to control is a fear based human attribute. This gives birth to arrogance and greediness, which in turn becomes a vicious cycle. Life itself (from a philosophical perspective) must one way or another kill in order to survive. In itself, life is an absurdity. I have no illusions, but at the same time -believe me-I am not a cynic. That's the way it is. Material manifestation and thus experience is based on polarities: Life/Death, Light/Dark, Male/Female, Good/Bad. Every experience has its opposite. So, a world of eternal peace is indeed a utopia. This means that happiness, joy and prosperity (on a worldwide scale) are only apparent and ephemeral. No chance therefore that the overwhelming majority of the world's greatest philosophers were and still are pessimists (even in our contemporary world, with the deification our technological advancement). This pessimism is also found in all religions, especially if one approaches religion from an esoteric and not an exoteric perspective, which is basically materialistic.
So, if I have to answer this question, I might say that peace, happiness and joy are individual quests and not collective ones. We cannot impose happiness to the whole world; all we can do is to live in happiness and joy as separate human beings. After all happiness and joy is a personal quest. Ancient cults, as were the Gnostics, believed that earthly life is by its very nature hell. Thus, living on earth is a condemnation, not a blessing. This doctrine might sound gross, but I think that it there is some truth in it. On a deeper and more profound level, this inner sense of condemnation is experienced as an inner guilt and this very guilt brings another impulse, which dwells deep in our soul and is our compulsive need for redemption. No chance therefore that one of the central motifs in all religions is redemption itself. But, redemption from what? Well, to put it simply, redemption from our incarnation into this wasteland called earthly experience. To me, this is not a pessimistic philosophical approach; it is simply what life is all about and this is unambiguously evidenced in human history, from past to present.

Yes, your points are well notes, all about life seem pessimestic, if we constantly view a glass only as half empty, but if we see it also half full, then we are looking through it with optimistic lenses. Life is what we make it, but the human factor is not individualistic, its not like an Island that stands out of the sea and self sufficient. We express our true self when we engage with someone else, wife/husband creates a unit which produce offspring making a family unit. This form has been credited by research and by well informed mind as the best form to create the next generation. Far from being a condemnation, life on earth is a mission, humani is on a journey, a mystery to the great minds of the past you mentioned, but what was hidden from the wise and prudent is now being revealed to babes. This world is our springboard, friend "beloved now are we the sons of God, and it does not yet appear what we shall be but we know when He shall appear we shall be like Him and we shall see Him as He is. Many cannot see this because they put God out of the equasion, but it is real, and it gives hope to a world blinded by wars and accumalating material wealth. When everything else fails, when our governments and great philosophers cant give the answer. God can and He will deliver the hope we hold in Him. Yes only He can bring true peace to the life of an addict quick for a fix of wine or drugs. For the man stumbling to the bar for another shot to ease his pain, for the poor, the destitute, war ravaged regions, the motherless, the orphan, God can, He will feed the hungry and bring peace to our troubled world.
