Managing your Stress

The ancient secret of managing your stress is to look after yourself first, remove some of the things that are causing you stress and give yourself some breathing room, it can make such a difference if you follow these few simple steps.

1. Do One thing at a time: I realize we all multi-task but for goodness sake know your limits, don't keep piling on the tasks.

2. Let it Out: Sometimes we become so overhelmed that we want to yell ,scream or punch, do itin a way where it is not going to harm you or anybody else.

3. Accept Assistance: Women are more apt to do this then men ,gentleman if someone offers accept it, as they are only trying to help ,put that man pride in your back pocket.

4. Know your limits: Don't become over competitive or set your expectations to high.

5. Walk Away: If it is stressful walk away ,and ladies if their is an argument involved let him go blow off some steam, he will be back let him decompress.

6. Take a day off: If this includes work, chores, all responsibilites then do it, as everyone is entitled to a break. Where those favorite slippers and that comfy robe, put your feet up and relax.

7. Breathing Skills: This is so important close those peepers and breath slowly inhaling and exhaling bringing that heart rate down. At the beginning your head may feel a little light and you will feel the tension through your neck loosen up, so just relax and love your body and soul.

8. Excercise: Some of us like it, some of us don't but excercise is one of the best things to aide in the relief of stress. Walk with your spouse, a significant other a friend or with your pet. If you feel up to it, join a gym just do something physical to help that body relax.

Being able to manage your stress can make a big difference in your mental health and well-being.

So many of us live busy, hectic lives that we don't stop and breath for a second or step back from everything and RELAX, you made very good points. We all need to take time out of our busy schedules to follow those steps!Great hub!

i do not have the 8 symptoms, but i know i am very stressed. i feel that whenever i look into the mirror.

the suggestions for destress is the right ones you have mentioned. becaue i too follow the same methods. coupled with dhyana it works very well. atleast 4-6 months time should be given to assess the improvements. any assessment before this period is futile and an utter waste.

Miss G, Thank you for commenting and yes we do need to take time out for ourselves.

drgratton, I also have been able to relate and all of us need to decompress, so take time , you will thank yourself for it.

rajakrsnan: Can you provide more about dyhana as it sounds very interesting, write an article on it, as I am certain it could be utilized.

Netters, You are so welcome!!!

Dottie1, Being a mom myself I agree but we have to as otherwise if we do not take care of ourselves we can stroke, have a heart attack, suffer sever depression etc. Let the hubby help and take turns to decompress , find a sitter and go out and have fun as it is good for your well being. Thank you for commenting. :)

I love the attitude of stopping doing multitaksing. I used to think that multitaksing was great but I would scramble around trying to do 10 things and would only get a couple done and done not very well. Thanks for the great hub on a really important subject

billnad, I realize that we all do it, but we have to pull back from so much as it will cause cloudiness and undue stress that we do not need. Thank you so much for commenting.:)

In a wierd way, I kind of like stress. Paul said, "We rejoice in our sufferings because we know that suffering produces perseverace; perseverance, character; and character, hope." Whenever I get way stressed out, I always try and count it a blessing that I'm learning perseverance. Doesn't always work though, haha. Thanks for the hub.

I have to disagree just a bit. To hit or kick something when you're angry can excessively associate aggression with violence and build a propensity to follow it in a rash way. This is why self-defense is best taught in a subdued environment of attrition.

As well, some environments in particular professions truly insist that one deal with stressful situations at the same rate and level as calm ones. It is essential to understand stress better, and the diets that avoid and overcome it. There are many daily consumables which attack the nervous system and mental tenacity of both adults and children. Best to eat healthy with lots of fresh raw vegetables and pure clean water, and avoid sugar and excessive caffein...etc...etc...

I do agree that we all need to decompress at some point, however, stress management is an extremely helpful tool to have in the arsenal.

Great hub!

When I read your list of eight symptoms of stress, I thought: well, at least I never started biting my nails! Enough said. :)

Great Hub.
