The season runs from August to May with all the teams playing 38 games each that is each club palys all the other clubs twice, one at home and the other at the opponents home. A team gets 3 points for a win and 1 point for a draw. No points are awarded for a loss. The team points are totalled and the team with the most points is declared the Champion. If the points are equal goal difference and Goals scored come into the calculations.
The top teams also qualify for the UEFA Champions league. Barclays have been sponsoring the EPL since 2001. Only Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Blackburn Rovers have won the tournament so far.
In addition to managing the clubs the Premiere League also manages 41 Premier and football league academies which is a youth development scheme for male footballers. Some clubs run programs for girls as well. The premier League sets aside 5 % of their domestic broadcasting revenue for the development programmes. he 5 % may look less but amounts to a lot considering the following of the league.
