Watching live sports on a PC is easy. Let me tell how to do it

One of the magic things made possible by the Internet is that, nowadays, every single person on the planet can watch live sports for free on a standard personal computer. In fact, the overflow of several different websites and technologies dedicated to streaming live sports on the web makes it a pretty common feature eagerly enjoyed by several thousands of internet users around the globe, either following Football, Cricket, Tennis, Rugby or any other sport.

In this hub I will provide a short but incisive inside overview of some of these technologies and websites that currently make watching live sports on the web a simple matter of choosing a sports event and start watching it. I will not dive into the detail about each of the sites and technologies here mentioned, but I will try, as much as possible, to complement this post by providing quality links where you’ll be able to find more information, in case you need it.

So, what do I need to watch live sports on my PC?

To put it simple, to watch live sports online you need a decent broadband connection (ideally something 2MBps or more, but even 512kbps will do also) and a few software programs, some of which are probably already installed on your computer.

In fact, there are several excellent programs out there which allow you to watch live sports, most of them completely free to download, install and use. Some of these software are reasonably sophisticated and allow you to do much more than simply watching sports on a PC.

However, most of the people are simply looking for a way to watch a live streaming, a feature which requires nothing more than a browser (congratulations! If you are reading this page, you already have a browser!), one or two media programs to capture the live streams (SopCast is a must, others like TV Antz might help too) and updated versions of Windows Media Playerand Flash Player (which you probably already have also, just the same as 90% per cent of the computers on the planet). And (sorry to disappoint…), that’s it: equipped with this software, you are ready to watch 90% of the football transmissions available in the Internet.

Ok, so where can I see the matches then?

There are several great websites where we can watch live football with a decent quality of sound and image and uninterrupted streaming. However, finding them might prove a hard task if you don’t know where to look. Fortunately for us, there are several sites which don’t broadcast live sports, but – guess what! – they collect links where we can find the live streamings!

The best example of this is www.myp2p.eu, a fantastic website which provides a daily schedule of dozens of sports events (Football, Cricket, Tennis, Rugby, Basketball, Baseball and others) and the respective links where we can actually watch the live matches. What more can we ask, really!?

As good as it is, the myp2p website is not the only good source of live video feeds. Other site absolutely amazing is Justin TV, a user generated broadcast channel where you can search for several sports events.

And if none of these suit you, don’t worry – there plenty of other good alternatives. One of them is the bookmakers websites (Betfair, Bet365, Bwin and others), which regularly stream live sports. These sites will require you to register to gain access to the live video feeds, but the quality and liability of the broadcasts and picture quality is usually above the average.

If you’re still not happy because none of this options fits you, either because you can't be bothered to look for the links or you're just not patient enough to install the programs required, then I would suggest you to look for a paid service that grants you easy access to whatever channels or sports you want. There are several services available online targeting different countries and different sports, and the prices are usually cheap. As an example, I can quote this one to Watch Live Football Online. However, it all depends on which sport or channel you are looking for, so I would suggest using our friend Google to find which service is the right one for you.

A lot more can be added about this subject, but I would recommend you to start watching a live sports event right now, just to prove how simple it is. The easiest way to start is making sure you have Flash and Windows Media Player on your PC, install SopCast (find out here how to install Sopcast), navigate to www.myp2p.eu and pick an event, follow the links provided and start enjoying it!
