Water Powered Cars: Fact or Fiction?

It seems to be the invention of the lifetime: an automobile that can run on plain water. Although there are many stories circulating about this so-called miracle invention, there is actually no solid proof of its existence: no car, no blueprint model, no nothing. The truth is: rumors are enjoying their run, claiming that water-fuel technology is being willfully suppressed by mega oil and petroleum companies all over the world. The thinking goes: if these companies let the technology reach the masses, their businesses would fall off. And so necessitates the global gag-order.

This sounds like an interesting theory; it even sounds a bit of a fairy tale with the big bad wolf trying to blow down the poor scientist's front door.

Urban Legend Debunked

Nevertheless, it is evident that there has been no gag-order on such a massive scale that scientists from around the planet are so willing to adhere to. It's not as if brilliant scientists always follow all government policies and restrictions, right? This is true, even when the government funds their researches.

If such a technology indeed exists (and for some unthinkable reason, there is this order of silence,) there still should be a couple of scientists who may be developing their own water powered model cars independently.

And there is none: no model, no blue print and no patent as of late. That alone is doubtful enough.

There are some people who claim that scientists are afraid of patenting this technology for fear of repercussion from the higher-ups. So who are these people in the higher echelons of the world's society, and what possible punishment can they issue that frightens inventors and creators into eerie silence? Besides, the very first inventor to actually patent such a machine will not suffer detrimental losses if he chooses to make his creation public. More likely, he or she will benefit from it and there will be other companies who will be willing to fund further researches on the water-fuel technology. As of 2007, there has been no feasible patent for water-powered cars.

The truth is: there is very little evidence of water fuel actually working for automobiles of any type, make or model. Even the now workable models of specially engineered water-based engines do not convert enough energy to move a cart, much less a car. The simplest explanation for this is that a water fuelled cat would need to extract considerable energy from water alone with no other additional inputs from other fuel sources. Unfortunately, water does not have enough standing energy to work with.

Steam Powered and Hydrogen Powered

Water powered cars work quite differently in principle and combustion system than steam-powered carriages of the 1700's. It is also not the same as the hydrogen fuel cars of modern times. You see, steam engines use the water which was extracted from a heat source, usually from fire.

When the water has turned into its gaseous element, it carries energy to the turbines or pistons of the engines. This drives the steam powered carriages forward. At best, the most advanced steam engines could only produce 160 - 220 horsepower.

On the other hand, a hydrogen car runs on the electrolysis extracted from the hydrogen and then this energy is burned with oxygen into the engine's fuel cells. These cells act as batteries that can help move the car forward.
