About this project:

This is a little cabin in the woods...hidden behind the carport.

The material pallet ranges from warm fir to cool green stained concrete to oil-rubbed bronze and shades of white paint.

The building was sited on the footprint of an existing storage shed (tree removal and grading avoided.) By tucking the building behind the carport we created a quiet space looking into the woods to a little stream. This contrasts nicely with the main house that stands out and looks across an open field to an expansive view.

Version 1

I am also fond of the building that never was...pictured below. It was a perfect passive solar design with a tall south facing windows and a nice size porch on the south side and a small porch off the back. It had some cool details on the inside and a curved metal roof. For several reasons the client decided to scale back. In the end, Version 2, more simple and humble, might have been a better fit to the site anyway.
