Ways For Kids To Make Money
63The older children get in age, the more expensive they get, especially now, with all of the new modern technology and gaming equipment, designer clothes, and shoes, and the list goes on. Even though teaching kids responsibility leads them to want to work and save money, they want to use their money to by the finer things in life kids enjoy. If your child falls into any of these categories, here are a few ways for kids to make money.
One of the oldest jobs for children is a lemonade stand. The overhead on this is low. All you need is lemons, sugar, paper cups, and napkins would be nice. Put a nice sign on your stand with the words Lemonade, the price, and thank you for your support. You might be looking for more complicated ways that kids can make money. However, there is honestly no need to complicate things as the tried and true methods are just as good as any of the others.
May I shovel your sidewalk? If your family lives in a snowy climate, this is an excellent job for a child. This is a good job for both boys and girls, depending on the amount of snow. They should not agree to take on jobs that look too big for them. For a reasonable fee, they could make good money at this and establish a clientele list of neighbors. This last winter some kids knocked on my door two or three times and asked if they could shovel my steps and my driveway. It's honestly a lot easier to pay them than it is to do it, in fact if I rely on doing it myself, it usually doesn't get done. The kids make money and I get to watch TV.
Raking Leaves for homeowners in your neighborhood is another good source of income for children. Nobody likes raking leaves but children. They have fun at this, so why not let make money too. Each of these easy tasks that are done in the yard are things that many kids enjoy. They will enjoy the work and will also enjoy making money so that they can buy the things that they would like to buy.
Other easy jobs include watering the grass, keeping a yard clean, taking out trashs. Providing service to your elderly neighbors, like helping them at the grocery store, helping them around the house.
Children have the perfect opportunity to start earning income. Before starting they should have a goal and shoot for that amount. They should save some of their earnings. To get repeat business they should always be respectful and courteous.
Recycling is another common method that kids can use to make money. They save cans, bottles, and newspapers that can be turned in for a profit. I remember recycling glass soda bottles when I was a kid and then buying candy with the proceeds. Kids love coming up with ideas like this.
Teaching Your Kids To Run Their Business
One of the most important aspects of teaching kids to make money is that they need to understand that they will have expenses that must be met. For example, if they're going to buy lemonade you need to make sure that they pay you back for it. They have to understand that buying supplies isn't free. The basic procedure will be to take them to the store, buy them some supplies, and then have them sign the receipt. Let them know that after they have sold their product they will pay you back the amount that's on the receipt, and that they can keep the rest.
Over time the kids will start to understand more and more about what it takes to run a business.
