58You don't have to be a parent to support a local school. There are many ways a person could support a local school. Most of the ways to support a local school can fit in three categories, money, time and talent.
When you think of money and supporting a local school you may be thinking of giving the school a donation. Writing a check for a donation, leaving money to a school in a will/trust fund, or financing a scholarship are certainly ways non-parents cam support local schools with money. However, those are on a grand scale and might not be in your budget. A non-parent can support local schools with the money they have or will spend anyway. This way is more economical since you will be spending the money already. Many food stores have programs supporting local schools by linking your shopping card to a school. All you have to do is designate your card for a school and a percentage of the money you already spend at the store goes to support schools. Another way a non-parent can support local schools is to save "box tops for education" and donate them to local schools. Again you are using money you have already spent and saving the tops off of items you have already purchased. Supporting fundraisers by local schools in your area is another way you a non-parent can support a local school.
Go to a school and volunteer. Volunteering is a wonderful way to support a school. Most schools need volunteers and their is ussually something you can do to help. If you know a teacher at a local school ask them if their is anything you can do to help.Chances are teachers know a way you can support a local school.These are ways you can use your idle time to help support a local school.
Talent goes with time. If you have a special talent you can use that a long with your time to support a local school. You can do this by using your talents to support a school program. You could use your talent to be a guest speaker. You could volunteer to be a mentor. You could volunteer to help on career day.
