Pick a Theme

The first thing you want to do is decide what Theme, Colors or Patterns that you would like to have in the room in your home that you will be redecorating.

Sometimes just a few Item changes in a room can make a huge difference, and what you have already is not really that bad. So, step into the middle of the room. Look at every item in the room. Make a list of things that you really would like to keep because it is still in good shape, but does not seem to fit with the new newly decorated room plans.

  • Gather some store flyer's and magazines to help you decide what new items you will need.
  • Make a list, place the items that you really need at the top of the list.

  • The items that would like to have in the middle.
  • The items that would be nice to have but really are not all that necessary towards the end of the list. If you have any money left at the end, these items can be bought as long as you do not go over your budget amount!

.

Get ready

Make a list of all the items that you will need. Keep it with you all the time from now on. Every time you see a Thrift Store, Second hand store, Garage sale or a Yard Sale. Take your list with you. You savings will be be incredible if you do not buy everything from regular stores at full price!

Once you have all the items that you will need to completely do the whole room over. You need to get your Paints and Materials ready to redo the whole room at once.

Some Items you may need or may already have on hand:

  1. Paint rollers, brushes, thinner, drop clothes
  2. Hammer and nails to hang pictures
  3. Border, Trim Paints, Chair rails
  4. Old newspaper for placing items on to be painted
  5. Ladder or a step stool
  6. Paper towels, Window cleaner

Putting it all together

So now you have everything that you need. Break out the paint and paint all the old items that are still in good condition so that they all match or coordinate nicely.

Toss out or put the old items that are not going to be used into a "Give-Away Box"

While the painted Items are drying give the room a good cleaning, paint the walls if they need it. Wash the windows, either replace or freshen up the curtains. Dust everything. Vacuum and lay down the throw rugs.

Place the newly painted items around the room. Your done! And it did not cost you a fortune.

Tell others your Redecorating

Bargain shop whenever possible. Sometimes when family members or friends hear that someone is redecorating they offer to help. Or they will buy you something special to go in that room. Sometimes will get something for a birthday or Christmas Gift.

Do not go over the budget or it does not make any sense to make a budget in the first place.

Very good piece! You are so right about it only needing a few changes to make a big difference. We just moved our bed around and it is like a whole new room! Now I'm excited about doing a few other minor changes.
