One of the most underrated aspects of any well accessorized outfit is the use of a belt. Belts are sometimes thought of as just functional. While, yes, belts do help to keep pants up and other clothing items in place, they are more than that. They can add a blast of color, emphasize your assets or de-emphasize figure flaws.

If you lost some weight and your slouchy sweater or dress is now too big, a great belt can revive your outfit. A wide belt can cinch an oversized garment for a trendy look. If you have a neutral outfit that you want to add some color, a belt is a great way to do that. This season, look for belts in red, blue and especially purple - one of the hottest colors for fall.

Another great aspect about belts is that they allow you to totally change your look quickly and easily. If you are going straight from work to a date or a night out on the town, you can accomplish a stylish look with the help of a couple belts. At work, you can wear an thin, elegant belt over your blazer with a classic black dress. You will look professional at work without looking too casual. However, when you are ready to go on that date or go out on the town, all you need to do is remove the jacket and replace that belt with a glitzy, chain belt for some extra flash.

Belts can also be used to help fix any problem areas on your body. Many women who are short waisted or thick in the middle think they should skip a belt altogether. However, that's not the case at all. Grab a sash belt, chain belt or braided belt and wear it low. By slinging it low on your hips instead of at your natural waistline, you can elongate your torso and look slimmer. On the flip side of the coin, if you feel that your body is lacking curves, you can add a thin belt right at the waist to accentuate the curves you do have. Coordinate your belt with your shoes and handbag for a polished look. If you want something a little more funky, you should mix the colors and textures. A studded belt will add a trendy, edgy look. Experiment with different types of belts and find what looks best on you.
