Forget About What you Learned In School
Ways to improve your writing skills to make more money is the subject under consideration. If you are writing To draw attention to to yourself, your business, or product you are trying to sell.
Forget about what you learned in school.
Every English teacher is a different personality. So you received an A+ on every term English paper you ever turned in. Doesn't mean a thing in copy-writing. You wrote to please your teacher and received an A+ for your effort , That won't work in copy-writing.
The copy you write will be read by many different kinds of people and everyone has a different personality. Some of them are in a hurry, others don't read very well or have trouble reading and others are looking for something specific.
If you can carry on an intelligent conversation when you are talking to people, you can write good copy. The difference is it's a one way conversation so it's easy to drift off the subject. Don't do that. Forget about what you learned in school. Write Just like you were talking to someone you know well. Be conversational.
Develop your own individual voice, so to speak. Develop a way of writing that is you. People will begin to recognize your writing voice and you will be easily understood. Make your content rich with valuable material. If you need to do research, by all means do it.
Occasionally linking to another authors article or to a medical journal or a News Magazine is perfectly all right. The more you know and the more information you can supply to your readers the more they will look upon you as a real professional. Then they will be looking for every new article you write.
Every article should have a theme, stick to that theme! The theme of this article is, ways to improve your writing skills to make more money. If you notice that is the headline of this article. The headline should be the theme, don't stray from it.
Your theme text should be woven into your article three or four times. If you do that you will be on target throughout your article. Search engines also look for the repeated theme. The spiders then know your not wandering off the subject and they love it.
A short headline [or title] is easier to weave into your writing. Your title should be keyword rich. That means you need to do some research to find the right words to be the theme of your article. You need a keyword rich theme that will be attractive to your readers and the search engines. The headline must be the keywords words that your target audience will be typing into their search bar.
For researching keywords I use Word trackerit's the most powerful keyword research tool you can buy. I wouldn't be without mine. I try to keep my title [or theme if you will] to no more than four words.
Another thing that needs to be learned by most copywriters is how to write in short crisp clear to the point paragraphs. People who are in a hurry to find something appreciate the short paragraphs with lots of white space between them.
Short paragraphs with lots of white space make your article easier to read. When you are writing copy , no paragraph should be more than five lines in length. Four lines is ideal and anything less than four is okay too.
Make every paragraph packed with information. If you have a paragraph that does not contain some valuable information, get rid of it, It takes away from the value of the rest of your article.
If You have a paragraph that is more than five lines, first see if you can shorten it and still make it clear, understandable and value packed. Sometimes that can't be done but what you can do is, make two shorter paragraphs. If you can't do that either get rid of it.
There are any number of ways you can improve your writing skills. Right now Renegade University has a powerful hands on class entitled Writing With Pull. I haven't been there yet but I plan to in the near future. Anyone serious about their business cannot get too much education on the subject of writing copy.
Any one can write words on paper, but to make them interesting and informative is a whole other ballgame. Keyword research is important too. You Just don't throw in a whole bunch of words that you know are good keywords and hope they work, they probably won't.
You need the search engines working for you, if you don't have them working for you there will be no readers. If you don't have readers it wont make any difference how good your writing skills are.
Learn how to link you pages to your blog, and to social sites that have people with the same interest you have. Join a group that links each others articles to different social sites all over the Internet. The more readers you have the more valuable your writings become and the more money you will make.
All of these things we have discussed are ways to improve your writing skills to make more money. Try them they work. Take an older article and rework it with these points in mind, specially the key words. See what happens, you will be amazed.
