We All Need Luck, Even If We Are Dogs.
66Bobama-dog
The story of a lucky puppy, a Portuguese water dog named Bo, who found his way to Obama's family is all over the news sites, TV and blogs. The puppy is adorable as any healthy puppy would be. He was lucky enough to be a pure breed dog which almost automatically grants him a ticket into a good life. Plus being taken into Obama's family (the dog already got a web nick- Bobama) granted him a celebrity status.
Frankly speaking, it's kind of sickening to follow all those sentimental ahhhh's and ohhhh's descriptions of the new President‘s contemplations about the future first dog's breed and where he would (and wouldn't) sleep. Doesn't our President have more important things to deal with?
Come on, if he simply wanted to take a pet for his daughters, they could've had it long ago, without this showing off.
Everyone needs a pet
I count that it will benefit any child to have a pet to learn to become a more responsible, caring and responsive person. As a child I had a dog and she was a mix of a dwarfish terrier and a hairy toy-terrier. When my son was big enough to have a pet I decided to take a dog for him and wanted it to be rescued from a street. I consider that it doesn't matter what breed you take into your house as long as you are going to love your pet. Expensive pure breed canines need and give the same love and attachment as simple creatures. Those simple mixture pets even need more mercy and luck in this world than those who are granted good life already by their belonging to some pure blood.
I give more honor to people who take care of pets which would be gone without those sacrificing efforts for the sake of those pets. I am touched more by the stories about brave animals that suffered and still remained lovely characters.
These are some of them, including my story.
Shoko, my son's dog
This is my son's celebrity dog, which was found in a street on an Israeli rainy and cold February of 1998. She was approximately a three-month-old puppy, all in wounds and worms. I used to joke that she was a mix of a rat and a butterfly, as her ears were bigger than her head and she looked like a rat overall. I was not sure if she might survive at all and even when she started to gain weight and became more self-assured I doubted that she might live long. Look at her now; she is 11 and still as lively as a puppy.
Shoko's life
These are my heroes
Faith
This is an absolutely incredible story about a dog named Faith, as only faith can do miracles
This dog was born on Christmas Eve in the year 2002. He was born with 3 legs - 2 healthy hind legs and 1 abnormal front leg which needed to be amputated. He of course could not walk when he was born. Even his mother did not want him. His first owner also did not think that he could survive. By this time, his present owner, Jude Stringfellow, met him and wanted to take care of him. She was determined to teach and train this dog to walk by himself. Therefore she named him 'Faith'. In the beginning, she put Faith on a surfing board to let him feel the movements.
Later she used peanut butter on a spoon as a lure and reward for him to stand up and jump around.
Even the other dog at home also helped to encourage him to walk. Amazingly, only after 6 months, like a miracle, Faith learned to balance on his 2 hind legs and jumped to move forward.
After further training in the snow, he now can walk like a human being. Faith loves to walk around now. No matter where he goes, he just attracts all the people around him.
He is now becoming famous on the international scene. He has appeared on various newspapers and TV shows.

Your dog is so cute! I love the description "a mix of a rat and a butterfly". The story of Faith is inspirational. I was very disappointed when I heard the Obama's were going to accept a pure breed dog instead of adopting, as was their original intent. I heard on the news that they were going to make a contribution to the shelter. It made me sad to think a dog may die because they did not adopt. Thanks for the stories and for caring!
What a nice hub. Those dogs are adorable, and Faith is amazing!
Thank you all for commenting.
sjk, I’ll check on your dog’s pictures.
k@ri, I agree with you about Obama’s . And this is life, I suppose, and everyone may be tested on little things. Though situation like this might be pretty common and it is everyone’s personal choices, but Obama’s family is in front of everybody and he is not acting the best.
Melody, you are right. I am sure we can find more inspirational stories about rescue pets and people who made it possible. As a rule those stories are not as popular as a celebrity life….
How true that is. I don't know if your son told you this or not, but I have epilepsy and in many cases, you actually can train your dog to save your life if you're having a seizure. Now, none of the dogs my family's had have been trained to do that (I got diagnosed when I was fourteen and am twenty five now), but my mom and dad think if something did happen, the dog's instinct would kick in and somehow she would know what to do in the end, e.g. lick my face until I came out of having a seizure.
I am sorry to hear about your illness, Sarah. But you are right about a dog. There are many stories how dogs actually were saving people's lives. So, people should return a favor, shouldn't we?
This is a lovely, touching Hub. I have seen the two legged dog, Faith, on youtube and I am still amazed by it. I love that shot of Shoko in the hat and the one right below it highlighting those huge ears! Wow! Cody is a pitiful case.
We need to love dogs. They have earned the love of mankind through their service and love to us through millennia.
Thank you for this wonderful article.
James, thank you for reading and commenting, I appreciate it.
Shoko grew up, but her ears remained the same size, so now they don't look so huge. :-). Also what is remarkable- when we lived in Israel she din't have much hair, it was more like bristles. After we moved to Wisconsin, nature protected my dog by giving her a nice fur coat! Isn't it amazing?
That is amazing!

aw, how cute! =) I love dogs, no pun related to the movie! I have had five dogs in my life. If you go on my facebook page, I at least posted up two of their pictures. We had Faun, mainly because she looked like a baby deer, and now, we have Oreo, who looks like the cookie, Oreo. I also heard about Shoko from Reuven. She seems like a little cutie! =)
