We Moved To Montana ~ Now, My Husband's A REDNECK!!!
73Did I Really Marry A RedNeck?!!
I don't know when it happened, but every single morning, I wake up to a redneck!! I didn't marry one, but one now sleeps with me in the bed, he eats with me, we share the duties around the farm together, we even go for long drives in the mountains together. By all recollection, I believe it must have happened when we headed north to Montana!!!!
Looking back, it must have happened subtly. I remember marrying a "city boy"; he was one when we met in the bay area, on the outskirts of San Francisco, California. Dave worked for a hot shot race car driver, he himself raced motorcycles for 18 years. He built and rebuilt hot rods, wined and dined me, surprised me with little trinkets and even bought tickets to theatrical performances, where shirt and tie were a requirement.
Now, don't get me wrong...I LOVE MY REDNECK honey!!!! I love every square inch of his redneck body and spirit... In looking at the transition, I just wonder when it happened exactly. In pondering, I began to note just some of the changes I have seen:
HE USED TO:
Buy me flowers from fancy florist shops
NOW HE:
Heads out on our property and picks them for me!
HE USED TO:
Talk on his cell phone
NOW HE:
Drives across town to talk to folks “in person!”
HE USED TO:
Listen to the radio and his extensive CD collection
NOW HE:
Tunes in to the police scanner 24/7!
HE USED TO:
Hang out with all his buddies
NOW HE:
Prefers the companionship of our critters!
HE USED TO:
Have nice leather belts
NOW HE:
Straps on suspenders to keep his jeans up!
HE USED TO:
Race motorcycles
NOW HE:
Gets a thrill driving his riding lawnmower!
HE USED TO:
Listen to good old rock and roll
NOW HE:
Knows every single word to every single country song!
HE USED TO:
Wear hip, in style, wrinkle free clothing
NOW HE:
Wears overalls, coveralls and anything flannel!
HE USED TO:
Hang out in the garage until the wee hours of the night
NOW HE:
Putters around in his “man loft” in our big red barn!
HE USED TO:
Rebuild hot rods
NOW HE:
Builds fences, gates, chicken coops, doghouses and barns!
HE USED TO:
Shop at upscale stores in the city
NOW HE:
Spends hours browsing the aisles in the feed, hardware and lumber store!
HE USED TO:
Love the fragrance of my perfume
NOW HE:
Prefers the smell of fresh alfalfa!
HE USED TO:
Take me to dinner and the movies
NOW HE:
Watches Andy Griffith reruns and wants BBQ every single night!
HE USED TO:
Love fresh laundered, neatly folded clothing
NOW HE:
Loves to see his “britches” hanging on the clothesline!
HE USED TO:
Have lots of electronic “boy toys”
NOW HE:
Has a chainsaw, wood chipper, snowplow, hole digger and rototiller!
HE USED TO:
Love to snuggle with me in our big, fluffy bed
NOW HE:
STILL DOES!!!
Luckily, some things NEVER change!!!

Holy Cow! How does this happen to a sane individual :)? And is there hope for reform?
Oh, that's too funny. Love the Ace Hardware suspenders. What a great hub and tribute to your husband. I do love his tie-die shirt. Thanks for the laugh today.
Fantastic. Put a big smile on my face. What awesome photos. Hard to picture him any other way. I think Montana suits him fine, wouldn't you say? Man loft rofl! Alfalfa, hysterics. Police scanner, now that one brought tears to my eyes from laughing. Made me think a lot two, those changes. Thanks Montana Farm Girl. =D (the truck photo is a hoot by the way.)
Very nicely done Montana Girl! Great photos too...your husband is a sweet redneck for sure...:)
How funny! Thanks for the laughs.
Most of the changes sound good to me and at least he still likes to snuggle :)
Nothin like real life to knock off all the acoutrements of bein Californicated.
I Love it that is very funny! Let me sing a little toon for you Green Acres is the place to be!!!! LOL Fantastic Hub!!!!!!
Nice post!
Wow, look out, everyone who loves the American Dream will want whatever therapy Montana offers..
Stars and Rednecks Forever!!
from one greatAmerican to another
Great hub, as far as your redneck husband goes...as long as he still wears tie-dye shirts once in awhile, you have nothing to worry about. His tastes in adventure may change, but you can rest assured his morals are still in tact. LOL!
I loved this hub, and I loved the photos, sounds like you have an enviable way of life and a smashing husband
Oh you all are SOOOOOOOOOOOO AWESOME!!! No wonder I love it here at HubPages!!!! Thanks for all the support, love and laughs!!!!! I soooooooooo appreciate you taking the time to read all my crazy little hubs...I know there are so many on the hub to read! Many, many hugs!!!!!
Mostly good changes, country life is gooder - yeehaw!
Your redneck has found his true calling MFG - and all the changes seem to be for the better, except maybe for the one about being tuned in 24X7 to the Police Scanner - I hope he's not on the run from the law!! :p
LOL...aren't you glad some things don't change? :)
Lucky you! :D
Too funny!!!!! Jaspal, you sure got me to thinkin'!!! LOL!!! Yep, life is good.... So true Feline... glad certain things don't change!!!! And, I do feel lucky...very blessed indeed!!!! Now, wish those darn goats would kid!!!! Still waiting!!!!! When they do, it will surely be another hub :-)
LOL - Sound's like he made the transition perfectly Farm Girl - My parents used to wonder who I was after returning from a three month visit to my grandparents farm - Turning Redneck is an easy and quick process the engulfs you with little or no notice! :)
Yep Jon, I agree... sometimes you don't even realize until you do or say something, and then question, "when did that happen?" lol I too, have become a little country girl and I often ask that very question!! Thanks for stopping by and commenting as well!! :-)
He's built like a stocky farm guy, it fits and looks like he's ejoying himself. I'm married to an obsessed construction worker who fowls up traffic by looking at every construction job he passes. It's great though to have guy that's really into what he does and your guy looks like that. He'll be fine.
Sounds as if you are very happy!
That's great. If that's what it means to be a redneck than I'm all for it. Sounds as if country life suits your husband. It certainly does sound like you are very happy.
Cute hub! It's great Montana brought out the wild side to your man. Great love story!
Yep, he is my "wild mountain man" now :-)
I really enjoyed this. Your Mountain Man sounds like a keeper regardless!
Hi Duchess....thanks for stopping by :-) Yep, I think I'll keep him!!! He looks so darn cute in overalls!!! lol
I can relate to your story. My husband and I moved from Baltimore to a small town almost 5 years ago. We would never move back. We only have to travel about 12 miles to hit all of the big box stores though.
I say celebrate! We just moved from Honolulu to the Big Island, and we're lovin it! Nothing beats country romance! Great hub!
Must be relaxing to get away from the city. Your new lifestyle is good for the ole' ticker. Less stress, more work to keep the blood flowing. Enjoy! I was born and raised on a dairy. I always dreamed of moving to the city. Through the years living in the country just suits me better. I no longer live on a big farm. I am enjoying every minute of the solitude of just being in the country.
In my family I am the redneck. My husband still does not understand why I am the way I am. My husband is a gearhead just as your husband used to be. These kinda guys are very handy to have around.
Loved your post
Thanks so much girls for reading and taking time to comment! I love hearing stories of other women who can relate... and I sure do love the encouragement and kind words!!!
Great hub! Not everything about being a redneck is bad!
I so agree with that one Habee!!!! I love my little redneck!!!
Aw-ww, fantastic for both of you. Have you got another one like him to send this way? Your Redneck(and his sunburn) is even better than these Okie Rednecks! :~) :o)
Hey there MFG, How ya doin? yeah, living on a farm will do that to ya, lol... Especially us guys...
If I find another good one FrogyFish, I'd send him your way... :-) Nathaniel.... you are one busy guy!!! You need to get started here on HP.... you have a gift and would bring smiles to faces here!!! Thanks for the support!!
There's only one drawback to this story,if any. That's for someone on TV to be making fun of rednecks and suddenly realize, there talking about you!
Great hub!
