Wear Your Special Perfume
62I love perfume! I have a few different ones and I enjoy them all.
Like many women, I used to "save" my perfumes for using only on a special occasion. I didn't feel that a regular, everyday occasion (like going to the supermarket or other shopping, for example) warranted me wearing my special perfume.
In August 2000, my Dad's sister passed away after a relatively short illness.
I was talking with my cousin (my aunt's daughter) during this particularly sad time, and noticed that she was wearing perfume. I loved the smell of it and asked her what is was. She told me it was "Chanel No 5". I had heard of it, of course - who hasn't?! - but I'd never smelled it before. I loved it!
My cousin then explained to me that she used to keep it for special occasions, but had come to realise that life is too short, and that you never know what is around the corner. There's no point having it if you're not going to use it.
How true, don't you think? - I do.
So ever since that conversation, I wear my special perfume when I feel like it.
We all tend to take our lives for granted at some time or another. That's perfectly normal human behaviour. Sadly, it is often only when tragedy strikes you or someone you know and love that the realisation "life on earth isn't forever" really hits home.
Who do we wear our perfume for? In my opinion, it is ultimately for ourselves, not for anyone else.
So wear your special perfume, because every day of your life is special.
When you feel good about yourself, it shows! If wearing perfume once in a while (or more!) helps you to feel good about yourself/be attractive to others, then just do it!
Of course there are thousands of other ways to feel good about yourself. Wearing perfume is just one of those things - but that's a whole other story!
Your LIFE is a SPECIAL OCCASION - celebrate it!
I've written a short poem about wearing perfume that I'd like to share with you:
Wear your special perfume,
Don't save it for "some day",
"'Some day" may never happen,
But then again, it may!
So just be on the safe side,
Don't let it go to waste,
Wear your special perfume,
And show you have good taste!

Hi Kylie this is really great stuff. Not one spelling mistake and perfect grammer. All jokes aside this I know is the very first of many hubs you will share with this very lucky community. We always knew you would come up smelling sweet Love Jenny and Ian

You're great Kylie! I love the way you write! Your attitude is beautiful and it shows in your work:-)
Thanks Eliza! I really appreciate that :)
Oh this is just lovely....I love the way you think. When I was a kid, about 8 I think, I was given a skirt for Christmas, and decided was so special that I would save it for a special occasion. For some reason I was waiting for this bolt of lightning or something that told me the special day was here and I could finally wear the skirt. In the end, the elastic gave way and I NEVER wore it...not even once. It was on that sad sad (lol) childhood day that I realised that there HAD been tons of special occasions where I could have worn the skirt...and never did.
Ever since then I no longer have 'special' things that stay in the cupboard and never get used. All my good china comes out every single day and I love it!

Thank you, Shaye! I can totally relate to what you're saying.
I was a shocker for not using things in case they got broken, wore out etc, from childhood through to adulthood. I struggled for a long time with using particular things because it never seemed like the "right" time.
I'm much better with using things now, particularly since that conversation with my cousin. It really made me stop and think too.
And I'm glad I did :)
Thank you for sharing your thoughts :)
What can I say, other than just how much I agree with your message here Kylie! I've been workin an a few perfume hubs, you might enjoy them, but probably not as much as I enjoyed this one!
Many thanks,
Will
Hi Will.
Thanks for your lovely comment. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I really appreciate you letting me know :)
I cried every time I re-read it the first half dozen times or so (thinking about my aunty) but now I'm okay again.
And I really do wear my perfume almost every day :)
Thank you again.
And I'm looking forward to reading your hubs :)
Kylie
Kylie,
It doesn’t seem that I’ve been getting notices about your hubs, or I’m blind. (you don’t need to tell me which it is).
Thank you for writing about this subject. I am a blessed man because my Barbie does not use the really expense stuff. I went in an expensive store one day and asked for her brand of perfume and they sent me to the cheap store across the street. But I love what she wears – makes me think I’m 18 again. At my age that is dangerous because I can write checks my body can’t cash.
Now, on a serious note, I love your statements about life being short and that you wear it for yourself. It’s all true and why shouldn’t we feel good about ourselves? Life is a special occasion! That is priceless. Thank you.
I do like your poem.
I would encourage folks to listen to you. All this time, I just thought you were pretty and nice, now I know that you are wise.
Thanks again. Kylie. ~ eddie
Hi Eddie.
lol - I must be going blind or something too! I hadn't even realised that you'd left a comment! So many emails some days, that it's hard to keep up at times!
Thanks for your comments. I truly appreciate them :)
lol - it's a cliche (but true) - you're only as old as you feel!
My kids aren't old enough yet to think of me as wise, but I hope they do in time to come! (I'm sounding like MY parents now! hehe)
Regards,
Kylie
Loved this poem Kylie. Wow you have a whole world here on the net. How amazing, you write so well I feel as if I am still just at your house having a chat.
Thanks Naomi!
Yes, I love my "other life" - lol. I thoroughly enjoy your company and the kids and I are looking forward to next Wednesday.
