What is Wedding Insurance?

Your wedding day has finally arrived, the day you have dreamed of your whole life, and....

•You find your seamstress has left town, with your wedding gown.

•You made it through your wedding ceremony, just to find out that Uncle Bob fell through the plate glass windows at the reception hall and it is going to cost you several thousand dollars to replace.

•Just as your getting ready to exchange rings, the best man tells you he lost the ring before the ceremony.

•You walk into the reception area to find all your gifts have been stolen.

•Your father-in-law to be, had to hospitalized the day of the wedding.

These are just a few of the disasters that can ruin your dream day, or even cause it to be canceled or postponed.

These types of things happen all of the time, so how do you protect yourself in the event of a wedding day disaster? Wedding Insurance.

Wedding Insurance is a safety net to help guard the investment made for your wedding day.

Wedding Insurance Basics

Today, the average cost of a wedding is between $16,000 and $20,000.00. Wedding insurance is designed to protect that investment in the event your wedding has to be canceled or postponed. It also protects against wedding attire, photographs, rings, gifts that may be lost or damaged. Wedding insurance can even cover liability protection to property that is used for your reception. These policies can be tailored to your specific needs.

Wedding Insurance Cost

The cost for the basic type of coverage mentioned above usually starts at around $185.00 and goes up incrementally from there.

Wedding Insurance Could Cover This!!!!!

Wedding Insurance Coverage

Granted, not all wedding insurance is the same. The cost may also differ from company to company, but some of the basic coverage's may include:

Cancellation/Postponement - coverage provides for circumstances beyond your control. Weather, military deployment, unexpected illness to a key family memeber.

Loss of photos and or videos - provides for loss of film, or if the photographer fails to deliver your photographs or videos

Wedding Attire ( Bridal Gowns, Tuxedo’s, Attendant Wear, etc.) - provides for repair or cleaning the wedding gown. Replaces lost or stolen wedding attire.

Rings - covers to replace you wedding rings if they are lost or stolen

Gifts - covers wedding gifts if they are lost or stolen 7 days prior or after the wedding day.

Loss of Deposits - covers deposits to vendors who fail to show up or go out of business.

Wedding Day Disaster

Additional Wedding Insurance Coverage - Wedding Event Liability Coverage

This coverage may be required by many reception sites.   Wedding event coverage can protect you if damages occur to your ceremony or reception site.  It can also include a liquor liability option that would protect you from liquor related accidents.  These can be additional policies or stand alone policies.  Some policies even cover your rehearsal dinner if it is 48 hours before the wedding.

Wedding Insurance Does Not Cover

These policies unfortunately do not cover for a “runaway bride” or a groom that suddenly gets cold feet, but what they do provide is peace of mind knowing that in the event of an accident, your wedding day expenses are safely protected.

Loss of deposits is becoming a real issue at the moment with so many companies going out of business. Whilst wedding insurance won't stop a company going bust, at least it'll mean you won't be left out of pocket should it happen. It's also worth checking credit card policies as some will cover you for lost deposits paid for using the card.

I agree, in this economy protecting your investment is key. You never know what catering company or florist might be forced out of business, walking away with your deposits.
