The meal at your wedding is always important. Everyone wants good high quality food. Some caterers can be very expensive. I would suggest looking around at different prices before making your decision about your caterer. One good option is to have your wedding reception at a venue which offers an in house caterer and the meals included in the reception price. This usually ends up saving you money because the venue will give you a cheaper price for their caterer and it also saves you from having to rent or buy table linens, cutlery, and dishes.
Another great option for your wedding dinner is to have a buffet. If you hire a caterer to make a buffet style dinner at your wedding it is a lot cheaper than a formal dinner. Having a buffet also gives you the option of supplying your own food. You could get certain relatives to make their specialty dishes to divide up the work of cooking, and if there is something you really enjoy to eat made by a specific person this gives you the option to have that food for your wedding. Supplying your own food for the reception is the cheapest way to have a great dinner with great variety.
Some ideas for buffet food for your wedding are: spaghetti and meatball, chicken, roast beef, salad, soup, chili, breads, cheese, lasagna, fish, vegetables. And for the younger audience you could supply pizza, French fries, sandwiches, chicken fingers and much more. All of these items are easy to make on your own and are fairly cheap to buy the ingredients for as well.
They are also foods that can serve a large group of people quite easily. If you are having an outdoor reception which is becoming more and more popular, you could even have a barbecue. Make hot dogs, hamburgers, and even steaks. Hopefully these food ideas were helpful and can help to save you money from those expensive caterers.

Thanks for the ideas. My husband and I are getting remarried next year. We have a little girl who is now 1 so we're on a very tight budget. We decided to let our family help us by making the food ourselves to save on the money. But i had no idea what we should have so thanks for the help.
