Picking the Right Wedding Jewelry
67A wedding is, for many people, one of the most cherished moments in life, and while it can be a very fulfilling event, most weddings take a lot of time and preparation. A lot of people get overwhelmed by how much work it is setting a fancy wedding up and for those of you who will spend hours picking the right dress for the occasion, you already know that the right jewelry and accessories is as essential. There exists many different avenues for people who are in the market to purchase wedding jewelry and it's this article's goal to try and make sense of them.
Picking a Theme
You are free, of course, to decide what to wear when the big moment arrives. Wedding jewelry sets can be purchased and while most people think of white dresses and black tuxedos when they think of a wedding, you're free to express yourself and set a whole new theme to match your personality. Some people have weddings with a science fiction theme, others taking a more gothic approach. There are no rules whatsoever when it comes to weddings; some even mix it up by having the brides wear tuxedos and the grooms coming down the aisle wearing stunning white dresses! That being said, the standard wedding procedure is the most unanimously chosen so I will focus mainly on it.
Subtle is Gorgeous
Before we take a take a look at specific jewelry sets and accessories, it's important to decide on the kind of look that you're going for. While you're free to go as zany as you like, if you are choosing a white dress then selecting jewelry that subtly enhances your appearance is often the safest--and most stunning--route to take. As with makeup, donning a simple and elegant tiara as opposed to a complex headpiece will often look the most refined and gorgeous. Choose a pair of earrings that are attractive without drawing a lot of attention or pick a broach that compliments your dress without making a loud statement; that way, when you are standing beside your partner, the wedding will be about you and not the accessories you decided to wear.
Tiaras
Choosing the right tiara can seem like a difficult choice as it can with any accessory and there are no steadfast rules when it comes to picking the right one. Although I can offer suggestions for price range and what to avoid when picking jewelry, it's ultimately up to you to decide what looks best on you. You can expect to pay somewhere between $100 and $300 with some tiaras going for as little as $20. If you have an extravagant budget for your wedding, you may feel tempted to spend more money to purchase something extravagant that you can brag about later but keep in mind that while your wedding ring is something that you will carry on your finger for years, a tiara is something you are only going to wear once during the wedding, so do not pick something plastic, of course, but for a tiara, you will be able to get away with purchasing something made with rhinestones instead of fine gems.
There is plenty of cheap wedding jewelry on the market that is fashionable still but know that purchasing cheap accessories might look tacky.
Makeup
Not everybody has to wear makeup but for those of you that wish to use it to enhance your features, apply it lightly, especially if you're picking a white wedding dress. You don't want to make your skin look heavy and washed out by makeup and, as always, remember to play up your eyes or your lips, not both.
Hairstyle
The hair that you pick to go with the rest of your attire should be as important, if not more so, than the other accessories that you choose. Hair is another point of interest that our eyes are naturally drawn to so while somebody might not notice your expensive diamond earrings (or the cheap ones if you are on a tight budget), they will certainly notice if you look like your just woke up out of bed and didn't take the time to sort your hair. You can hire a stylist to come to your house in order to do your hair right before the big event, however if this is the option that you're choosing, make sure to set up a clean, brightly-lit room for your stylist to work in. I would say that having a stylist come to use is a safer bet than going to one because your hair can be blown by the wind or messed up afterwards on the way to your nuptial. An updo looks flattering and elegant on most.
Footwear
What you choose to wear on your feet is as important as what you wear where everybody is looking. If you wearing a long, flowing dress that sits elegantly on floor, shrouding everything below the waist, your shoes might not get noticed much but you still would never decide to wear a regal dress with sneakers (unless you're doing it for kicks, of course, which some people are happy with). The search doesn't have to be long and arduous but there are a few things you should keep in mind.
First of all (and this applies to any accessory that you purchase): make sure it's comfy. You may be standing up at the alter for a long time and if you've got uncomfortable high-heels on, it goes without saying that you're not going to be able to live the magic moment to the fullest extent. Your mind will be on how much your feet are killing you, rather than on your spouse. Comfy doesn't have to mean ugly, however; there are sandels with straps that would stunning with any white dress. Wedding shoes come in a variety of different fabrics--silk, satin, velvet and lace--and they do not have to have high heels to look good.
Pick your dress before anything else. Your dress will be the main focus of your ensemble so make sure that any accessories that you choose will compliment it, not clash with the choice that you've made.
Lastly, keep the setting in mind. Leather pumps don't have much air flow so during the summer, you feet will be uncomfortable if the weather is hot and humid. Silk is easily stained by grass and getting wet so if you plan on having an outdoor cerimony, silk may not be your best option.
Other Accessories
There are many different kinds of accessories for you to choose from. Bands, wedding rings, broaches, earrings, necklaces--all of these can enhance the look that you desire for your wedding. It is wise to only play up one or two accessories otherwise you risk looking gaudy but so long as you keep in mind that subtly is often a better approach and good jewelry and accessories doesn't have to cost a fortune, you will be able to find the right ones to go with your dress.
Mens' Accessories
Men, of course, do not usually wear as many accessories as women but a nice suit and tie, as well as a pair of cuff links, will suit a formal setting nicely.
