Every bride wants to look fantastic on her wedding day and great wedding makeup plays a big part in looking and feeling flawless. Boston based makeup artist and registered esthetician, Renee Christopher, has been voted Boston’s Best by the Improper Bostonian in 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2006. She not only works her magic at Debu Salon, but she also does fantastic wedding makeup that makes brides feel beautiful, sexy, and most importantly, natural. Whether a bride is getting their makeup professionally done or doing her own makeup, these five wedding day makeup tips, courtesy of Christopher, will help to create a polished and beautiful look.

Book a Trial Run

Christopher suggests booking a trial run. “If you’re hiring someone to do your makeup, your trial run is the time to try different looks and decide what looks best on you so that there are no surprise as to how you will look on the big day. It’s also a great opportunity to take some pictures to see what your makeup will look like in your wedding photographs.”

Prep Your Skin

“Prep your skin,” advises Christopher. “In order makeup to look its best, it’s necessary to prepare your skin in advance. Find yourself a great esthetician to exfoliate and hydrate your skin. And don’t underestimate the important of having your eyebrows shaped correctly.”

Eye Make Up Tip - Go Waterproof

“Use waterproof mascara,” suggests Christopher. “In case of tears, waterproof mascara is the key to making sure there are no black streaks rolling down anyone’s face during your wedding day.” Christopher’s favorite choice is DiorShow in Black Out. Another less expensive favorite is Great Lash by Maybelline.

Buy Some Staple Products

Christopher suggests planning in advance and purchasing a few important products for touch-ups. “Unless you have a makeup artist to follow you around all evening, you will need to purchase a few things. Three important products to have are lipstick, lip liner, and blot powder in case your face gets shiny.”

Keep Shimmer to a Minimum

“Be cautious when using gloss and shimmer,” advises Christopher. “Glossy lips look great when first applied, but then gloss tends to travel and feather out. To prevent this, you can apply blot powder around your lip line or apply a small amount on the center of your lower lip. As far as shimmer goes, shimmer on the eyes looks great in person but tends to look white in photographs. A little shimmer is okay, but keep it to a minimum.”

Renee Christopher can be reached at Debu Salon in Boston, Massachusetts.
