Writing Wedding Poems

You will either find it very sweet or too cheesy but for some families, writing and reciting wedding poems is a tradition. Some examples of this include wedding invitation poems, poems read during the bridal shower, the wedding dinner, and the actual wedding ceremony.

In some families, there are literally dozens of fairly well-known poets and authors. These people can compose beautiful wedding poems. They are some pretty talented people.

If I happen to belong to this kind of family (which I'm not), I might find it really stressful when confronted with the idea of wedding poems. I will not be particularly interested. To tell you the truth, I will be a little bit insecure. My poetry wasn't bad, but compared to some of the poems that had come out there, it wasn't very good either. I knew that I wasn't a talented writer, and had grown accustomed to that fact, but even so it felt like a shame to have to showcase my mediocre wedding poem in front of hundreds of guests.

To some families, mostly parents and relatives, it is really a very big deal. Let's face it - weddings are as much for the parents as they are for the people getting married. A wedding poem was something that was expected.

It takes a lot of time to come up with the perfect poetry. As a matter of fact, it can take months. Aside from crafting about wedding poems in your mind, you need to look at wedding poetry on line, buy a few collections of poetry, and basically find inspiration whenever you can. You can write dozens and dozens of drafts before you can finally come up with something really decent and emotional.

The tradition is to keep your wedding poems secret even to your close family members and relatives. So when the time comes to read your poem in front of the guests, it can touch the heart of every listener. Do not worry. Even average writers can come up with good wedding poems If they put enough work into it. The key is sincerity and good taste. I'm sure many of us have both of those qualities in great quantity.
