So you’re getting married, and one of the most important things to consider is the rings you are going to exchange. The wedding rings are a symbol of your love but are also one of the only things you will spend money on that will last longer that the wedding day itself. When you first start to look at wedding rings you will realise that there are many options to consider and it can become overwhelming. One of the most popular types of rings to chose is sets which match, giving your marriage further symmetry which many see as lucky and romantic.

So What Is A Wedding Ring Set?

A wedding ring set is a matching pair of rings of the same style, design and metal. Although the size will usually vary as you will have different size fingers. Usually the man will have a larger and slightly wider ring but overall they will be the same rings just proportionally different sizes.

Things To Consider When Looking At Wedding Ring Sets

The best place to start is to consider what metal you want to choose. The metals differ not only in price, but color and finish and a lot is down to your budget and personal taste.

Platinum
A very precious metal, this is an expensive option. Platinum is very hard wearing and a heavy metal. It has a silver coloring and it can come in either a shiny or matt finish. If you can afford it platinum is certainly the way to go, and the silver coloring is a very classy finish for your wedding ring set.

Gold
This famous precious metal, though not as expensive as platinum. Obviously this has a different coloring to platinum and the coloring is a choice based on personal preference. Gold is a classic sign of wealth, but has declined in popularity over recent years as silver colorings have become more popular.

White Gold
For those who want a precious metal, namely gold, and perhaps don’t want to spend the money on platinum may wish to consider white gold which has silver coloring. White gold does fade over time becoming more yellow in appearance but this can be returned to it’s previous coloring with treatments at jewellers.

Silver
A cheaper option which gives this contemporary coloring. Although cheaper, silver is still a precious metal and a great choice for a classy looking ring.

Titanium
Developed for the space programme, bought in to the mainstream with golf clubs and now used for a wide variety of applications including wedding ring sets. Titanium is an alloy and very very strong. Titanium suits contemporary designs and may be a great option for your wedding ring set.

So once you have chosen the metal you need to consider the design. Firstly consider if you want any precious stones such as diamonds, emeralds, rubies included. You can also consider if you want any pattern incorporated in to the design of your ring.

Once you get an idea of the design you want, whether plain, patterned or including any precious stones it’s time to start searching the internet and jewellery shops for designs you like. The best thing to do is look at a large amount of rings and your will find a style that you like. Then once you know the sort of ring you are looking for you can start narrowing down your choices and considering the rings that fit in to your budget.

Internet Jewellers

Internet jewellers often offer some great prices, but there are a few things to consider. Firstly check the returns policy in case you don’t like the design or the size is wrong. Before you order also check any professional bodies that they are members of and any quality guarantees they have. Finally a great thing to check is if there are any reviews of the site and their customer service. To do this just put the name of the website and the words “scam” “review” and “feedback” in to Google and see if you find any reassuring or disconcerting about the retailer. Use your commons sense and you should be able to find the good sites and the ones you will have the confidence to spend that amount of money on.

So there are plenty of things to consider when searching for wedding ring sets. Just make sure you find something that you both like a lot, as this is something that you will be wearing for the rest of your life. You need something that symbolises your love, commitment and style whilst falling in to your budget and matching your other jewellery! There are plenty of things to consider, but this is an important and expensive decision that shouldn’t be taken lightly! Good luck.
