When wedding bells are ringing and the big day approaches, you better make sure that you're prepared for the entire ceremony. One of the most important parts of the classic marriage ceremony is the exchange of rings along with the vows. Contrary to popular belief, wedding rings for men are different than those for women. Men's wedding rings are usually broader than those crafted with a woman's slender fingers in mind. There are also many different band materials and designs to choose from. Wedding rings for men have been specifically made with masculine style and imagery in mind. Put a lot of thought into what wedding ring you ultimately choose - with any luck, you won't be needing another one anytime soon.

What Makes Wedding Rings For Men Different

Wedding rings for men are very different than those for women. This is because of both physical and symbolic reasons. Physically speaking, the broader frame of a man demands a broader band for the ring. This ensures that the wedding ring doesn't look insignificant on the man's finger. In terms of symbolism, men's rings tend to be bolder and more striking than women's rings. This is true for wedding rings, too.

Wedding rings for men will often use diamonds to increase the beauty and resplendence of the jewelry. Unlike women's wedding rings, they will most often embed the diamonds within the band, meaning that smaller diamonds will be used. Men's rings also often use accentuated bands instead of adding gemstones to create their distinct styles. This can range from using burnished metals to laser etching patterns into the band itself.

Wedding rings for men are made from a variety of materials, including gold, white gold, tungsten, titanium, palladium, and platinum.

Gold and White Gold

A band of gold is probably the most traditional of all wedding rings, both for men and for women. Gold rings come in many different varieties and purities, including traditional yellow gold, white gold, and rose gold. You don't really see rose gold used for men's wedding rings, though, since their pinkish tint doesn't exactly scream masculinity. Gold can also be found in a few different purities, the most common being 10k, 14k, and 18k. The higher the carat number, the purer the alloy. Pure gold is never used since it is too soft.

The upside of a gold men's wedding ring is that it is classic, traditional, and elegant. It has a beautiful shine and is easily recognizable as a wedding band. On the downside, gold tends to be somewhat soft. This means that you need to be careful with the ring to ensure that it doesn't get scratched or damaged. You'll also need to polish the ring occasionally to keep its shine. Like a marriage, a gold wedding ring for men requires regular maintenance.

Tungsten / Tungsten Carbide

Tungsten rings have become increasingly popular for many different kinds of men's jewelry, including the wedding ring. Many people get confused about the difference between a tungsten ring and a tungsten carbide one. In essence, these two are precisely the same. Most tungsten rings actually are made from a tungsten carbide material and simply don't use the full version of the name.

Tungsten carbide is a great material for a men's wedding ring because it has excellent physical durability and is hard to damage. This means that you don't need to worry about the ring as much when working with tools. Tungsten is almost as hard as a diamond and will retain its shine with a minimum of maintenance. It may be unconventional, but it is certainly a good choice for a men's wedding ring.

Titanium

Another relatively new material used for men's wedding rings is titanium. Titanium is light, strong, and durable, outclassing more traditional precious metals in terms of its physical prowess. This makes it symbolically perfect for a wedding ring for men. Titanium, like tungsten, doesn't need as much maintenance and is much harder to damage. A titanium ring has many advantages over tungsten as it can be easily resized if required. Many titanium wedding rings for men have engraved or etched patterns in them for extra style.

Palladium

Palladium is a precious metal that is much more rare, expensive, and elegant than traditional gold and silver materials. Wedding rings for men will sometimes use palladium instead of these conventional precious metals if a lighter color is desired. Palladium is a pure metal, unlike similarly colored white gold, making it more attractive for a wedding ring. Palladium wedding rings for men will retain their color forever, no matter how much time has gone by. They may be more expensive, but the value derived is certainly worth the extra cost.

Platinum

No matter where you look, platinum is considered the cream of the crop of precious metals. It has beauty, durability, elegance, and value. Platinum wedding rings for men are usually 95% pure, with the other 5% being a metal called rhodium. This alloy is exceptionally strong and durable, making it more resistance to wear and corrosion compared to gold, white gold, and silver. Keeping platinum in perfect shape is a little more demanding than polishing gold, as it is more difficult to get any scratches out of the platinum band. If you're looking for the best in terms of function and looks, you can't do any better than a men's platinum wedding ring.
