Time to go Home!

Yes, it's a happy day. Not only did I have a shower, it's also the day I go home. Yippee!

Happy to be leaving my hospital room

A few potholes later and I'm home at last!

Do I look happy in the photo to the right? Do I? Do I? You bet I was.

"Dammit, Jim. I'm beginning to think I can cure a rainy day!" --Bones, Star Trek 1967 episode "Devil in the Dark"

After shampooing my hair not once, but three times in an attempt to eliminate the crusty crud holding my hair in some beehive do from the sixties, that one shower felt more spectacular than returning home from any scuzzy camping trip ready for a shower.

It was "going home day" and I can't believe I was actually ready for it. After feeling like I could barely move only six days earlier, Monday I was getting myself to and from the bathroom and I was ready to leave the hospital and return home to my beautiful children, my home, my bed and more hot showers.

It still hurts to raise my arms to shampoo my hair, but my hubby is helping me with that the next two weeks. It's actually kinda fun taking a shower with Mark...haven't done that in ages. Now, he gets in and gently scrubs my back. Such a mench!

Setting Goals

Today's Goals...massive amounts of drugs; narcotic and otherwise.

Take one more trip to happy land

It's time to go home, but not before I get loaded full of medicine. Some for pain, another antibiotic, more for muscle relaxing and anxiety, and don't forget to take something else to prevent the queezy feeling caused by all the meds.

I don't care to feel out of control and that's how these meds make you feel. If only I'd been more exploratory when I was a teenager. I never had a desre to take drugs like others in high school and college.

Padded to the max

If memory serves, there were six pillows holding me into position.

I'm ready to recover, write and go for a swim.

Let's Saddle Up!

Yes, I have become the Michelin Man, protected by just enough pillows that I can't feel the seat belt in the least.

This is as bad as when I tried sleeping on my side. In fact, I tried, unsuccessfully to sleep on my side at home my first night. After 30 minutes of attempting to get comfy, only sleeping and sitting on a child's pool raft, supplemented by numerous pillows, was the only way to find comfortable positions at home.

Why a raft? Because the first two days and nights I mainly slept in one position. Unfortunately, it killed my lower back. If you ever have to be in a hospital for more than a night, try to get one of those air mattress beds that continually change the air levels to contribute to your comfort. I'm hoping my sore lower back will correct itself soon, otherwise every chair is painful.

I know how you feel and TGFP (for pillows). Never would have made it after my ectopic without big huge pillows. They had to be big and fat and not the kind that smoosh down flat. Couldn't move without using them. Mind you what you went through is considerably worse, I think, but they were digging around on the wrong side for a long time before finally deciding to go where they should have. All I could think of as I read was that I wasn't so crazy with my month of pillows (took that long before I could move without them. Two months before I could go around acting normalish. Three months before I could go back to work. As for the showers, well, I didn't care so much. I took alcohol and baby wipe baths. My hair stayed in a big bun on top of my head. And I wasn't going anywhere so I didn't care. (Now mind you, i didn't have the pleasure of your drugs for that surgery, so that made up my mind about the shower stress pretty quick. Anyway, sorry, I keep going on and on. Hope you have as comfy of a recovery as possible. Keep us posted. By the way, I think you're Planned Maintenance has won. It's in the top five right now.

It does sound painful if you needed all those pillows!
