Weight loss isn't just about exercise. You can workout on an elliptical trainer for a half hour and eat pizza immediately after and you will probably end up consuming more calories than you burned off. Losing weight is a balance of exercise and healthy eating.

Start with small achievable goals and continue working with your end goal in mind. My personal goal was to lose 10 pounds when I first started.  Then 10 more pounds etc...

What is healthy eating? Healthy eating is choosing fruits and vegetables over candy and chips. Healthy eating is also limiting portions. Some people tend to eat more at mealtime because they feel it is “healthy” eating and they will be too full to snack after. It is okay to eat when you are hungry, but try making smarter choices. Slow down when you eat and you will feel full faster. If you are craving food, stop and think about why you want to eat. Are you stressed out or are you really hungry? Some people try to recall their last meal to help suppress hunger.

Believe it or not, another key to weight loss is getting plenty of rest and making sure you start your day with breakfast. Many people don't attribute proper rest with weight loss. Let's think about the facts. If you don't get adequate sleep, you tend to feel stressed and sluggish throughout the day. When people are stressed, they eat to calm themselves down. Eating during a stressed mind state might cause you to make hasty choices. You might opt for a donut instead of a banana. If you start your day with a proper meal you will feel better.

Exercise is the other ingredient to weight loss. You don't need to join a gym to exercise. Most people actually prefer to exercise in the comfort of their own home. Start with simple exercises and work your way up to something a little more intensive. I like to walk on my lunch break or after dinner in the evening. I will add some wrist and/or ankle weights when I want to take a more vigorous walk. I try to alternate days of the week with simple free weights. I like to alternate tasks because I don't want my body to get to a point where it is used to one type of exercise and won't burn off any more calories. In some instances you might burn less than you consume and could actually gain weight despite exercise. If weights or walking don't suit my mood for the day, I will take a bike ride.

In conclusion, weight loss isn't just about exercise. You need to maintain a proper diet in conjunction with working out in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

I always read any article dealing with weight loss. I appreciate the point on getting rest, something that I don't do. Thanks!
