Weight Loss Camp: Does it Work?

NBC's The Biggest Loser has done a good thing for America. More and more Americans are becoming aware of the obesity epidemic that is not only affecting our adults and teens but even scarier is the growing obesity rate in children. Weight loss camps also known by the infamous term "fat camps" are seeing higher enrollment rates as adults, teens and children are realizing the importance of maintaining a healthy weight and lifestyle.

This article covers the types of Weight Loss Camps that are available out there, the benefits of Weight Loss Camps and some other useful information.

Please feel free to leave your comments at the end of the article if you or someone you know has had a positive or negative experience at a weight loss camp.

Benefits of Weight Loss Camp

Weight Loss Camps have tremendous benefits not only associated with weight loss, but also the gain of self-esteem, athletic ability and the creation of lifelong friendships.

Excercise & Nutrition

Children, Adults and Teens can all lose weight in a safe and healthy environment (physically and emotionally) and discover new activities to enjoy to help burn calories. Healthy eating habits including instruction on nutrition and portion control are also emphasized.

How Much Will You Lose?

There are different lengths of stay and each Weight Loss Camp and some have programs for as little as a week for as long as the entire summer. All camps have different advertised levels of weight loss but it is obviously a variable factor that depends on the length of stay, type of camp and level of dedication to the program once at camp.

All in all, a Weight Loss Camp is a wonderful solution for families who have tried other options and are looking for a life changing opportunity.

Estimated Costs of Weight Loss Camp

Unfortunately, Weight Loss Camps are not inexpensive. Therefore, attending a camp or choosing to send your child or teenager to one should not be entered into lightly. It's much more expensive than traditional children's boarding summer camps. The average cost can run anywhere from $1800 for a week to $8000 for a month. Some camps offer free promotional airfare. If this is not the case, you will also have to pay for airfare costs or mileage costs as there may not be a weight loss camp in your state.

Weight Loss Camps for Adults

Weight Loss Camps for Adults are more commonly known as Weight Loss Spas or Weight Loss Boot Camps.
