If you are looking for a way to lose weight through exercise, kudos to you!

A lot of people are too lazy to do exercises in order to improve upon their own bodies.

These are the people that live their lives going from one weight loss drug to another, never getting results but always hoping for it.

When it comes to losing weight, it's not just the exercise you need to keep in mind.

If you have read my other hubs, you already know I'm slightly bigger on diet than I am on exercise.

They are both important, don't get me wrong! When you combine them, that's when the magic truly happens.

For both diet and exercise it holds true that you do well to inform yourself before you start either of them.

In this article, I will focus on the right types of exercise you should be doing in order to lose weight effectively and permanently.

Weight Loss Exercises

When it comes to weight loss exercises, you must keep realistic expectations.

Some people think that if only they do 1000 ab crunches per day, eventually they will get a six pack.

That's absolutely not true. So if you're doing ab crunches on a daily basis, you can stop doing that right now. It hasn't led to anything and it never will.

The fact of the matter is, you really don't need to work out your abs more than once or maybe twice per week.

Those six pack abs you are after... you already have them. The problem is, they are hidden under a layer of body fat.

In order to expose those abs you simply have to burn fat and get to around a 10% body fat percentage.

The abs are muscles. And just like with the abs, all your other muscles will also come out better if you burn the fat that's covering them.

This is called 'getting better definition'.

What can we learn from this?

The lesson to be learned here is once again that you shouldn't get too obsessed with resistance training.

Constantly stretching your muscles to the limit isn't going to give you bulging muscles anytime soon.

It's going to take a little more effort.

You need to combine various types of exercises to get your body to lose weight. And you need them at the right frequency and the right intensity.

How To Lose Weight Fast

If you want to lose weight fast doing weight loss exercises, then I actually have some good news for you.

You want to know what aren't good weight loss exercises?

They are not:

  • running 10 miles outside every single day
  • swimming 100 laps from one side of the pool back to the other
  • jogging on a treadmill daily for 45 minutes or more

Good news, eh?

The best weight loss exercises are things that:

  • you like to do
  • make you sweat just a little
  • you can do for about an hour each day

The thing is... what makes people fat is the fact that they get sucked in so easily by their televisions and video games. They just sit still on a couch for many hours in a row.

For the modern man sometimes an entire day passes where you haven't had any significant amount of fresh air and 'outside time'.

Instead of allowing television to rule your life, try to make that effort to get out more. Don't be a slave to modern comfort. Pry your butt off the couch and take a walk.

You like playing golf? That's great... playing golf uses up calories and therefore burns fat. Were you thinking it doesn't because there's no running involved?

Think again. Playing golf makes you walk around outside on hills. Do this for an hour or two and you'll definitely feel that you've had, dare I say it... exercise!

You got kids? Play with them for a few hours per day. This not only keeps you slim, but also your kids.

You can do chores around the house, or work in the garden. Doing all of these things daily will help you in your weight loss efforts.

Best Weight Loss Exercises

I know what you're thinking...

"Yeah right... it can't be this easy. I can lose weight just doing stuff I already do in my daily life? It's too good to be true!"

You're right. There definitely are 'fitness' exercises you can do at the gym to speed up your fat loss.

You don't need to limit yourself to just doing daily chores or other fun stuff that involved limited exercise.

For those of you that are truly willing to invest time and energy... for those of you that truly want to dedicate themselves to increasing their chances of successful weight loss, I have the following advice.

Interval exercises

Interval training is absolutely fantastic. It emphasizes workout intensity, and not workout duration!

With interval training, you work out real hard, pressing yourself to your absolute limits, for only a small amount of time. Then you work out slower and lighter until you've regained yourself.

And example of this is doing a cardio session for 25 minutes, where you run at your maximum speed for 3 times 1 minute.

It's a way better and more satisfying way of working out than running on the treadmill for 45 minutes at the same intensity.

And you don't need to be a math genius to figure out that 25 minutes of cardio is a lot more doable than 45 minutes of cardio!

After interval training, your metabolism remains elevated hours and hours after you're done. You don't get this with regular training.

Interval training beats regular training any way you look at it.

Doing it three times per week is already enough.

How's that for maximally effective weight loss!
